Weathercam, there's a couple of people on here who have had appointments with him

Weathercam, actually, the recommendation of a single person indulging in internet banter (as you are) is not necessarily preferable to various other methods of research which can also be carried out over the internet. Also, knife skills are useless without diagnostic skills and a lot of the threads on here are more about diagnostics and rehab - and even about the avoidance of surgery - than about actual surgery.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Pedantica, not to be pedantic, but this is a thread about recommending a good knee surgeon !
Obviously a good consultant will explore all options where possible to avoid surgery !
But just lately (6months) has been bizarre in the number of people that I know of who have done ACL's - and I know this thread is more than just ACL's, and not just middle aged sports jocks!
And no cowdoo had this through from a mate yesterday...........
My son Simon plays American Football for Plymouth Uni and having spent much of last season out with a torn shoulder (9 months rehab post operation) he managed to get back in the team in March.
Two games in a couple of colleagues jumped on him after the game and he felt his knee go.
At the time he saw his GP who referred him to a phsyio as I did when he came home for Easter. Both thought it unlikely that he had more than strain his ACL but the results of a long awaited MRI revealed last week a ruptured ACL and a torn meniscus.
****** recommended a guy called ******* ***** and I have come across ******* ******* but Jeremy suggests that you are well versed in ACLs and the best route to take.
Any thoughts?

True enough, but some thread drift is inevitable. I am guilty of it myself - my post of yesterday was about consulting a physiotherapist, not a surgeon. Sorry about that.

Weathercam, as the OP started the thread some time ago in August 2011, I would have hoped he has found the knee surgeon he required.

Hells Bells, tis true, but other people might now also be seeking a knee surgeon, in fact similar to that email I received yesterday !

Weathercam, the UK has a wealth of experienced and knowledgeable knee specialists, not just one! Not everyone can afford private consultations so finding someone in your immediate area who is recognised as being good either from first-hand experience or from reputation is far more useful. That way they can get their GP to refer them and/or use the Choose and Book system.
From what I know I'd say Johnathan Bell is better known in the knee business than your guy although I have heard of him. The current "must have surgeon" in your neck of the woods appears to be Mr. Adrian Wilson for what it is worth! I've been operated on by several knee specialists and would recommend all bar one of them, although some may now be retired. Jonathan Webb is the bee's knees as far as I'm concerned, he's pretty good with the scalpel as well!

I had refrained from posting (well actually I did post on this thread a while back but deleted it straight away when i realised how old the OP was) but I can personally recommend Mr Sean O'Leary based out of Reading, he does both private and NHS consultations or at least did back in 2005 when I called on his services. He did a darned good job.

Samerberg Sue, jeeees why are you so flaming aggressive, maybe try reading my OP again - I'm sure putting names out in the open like you have and saying one is better than the other etc could be of deep embarrassment to various parties concerned.
And like I said in my OP
"Not that the above is of any serious reference!"
PS I had my OP on the NHS and so did my daughter four weeks ago

I would personally recommend Dennis Edwards (based in Cambridge). He specialises in sport surgery, elective and trauma. Has a specialised Ski clinic which was great to attend! Truly great at diagnosing and fixing injuries and my knee honestly has never been better!
