Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Some great deals on gloves at bargainboards. Just bought myself a pair of these. Ordered yesterday, got them this morning. A great glove, but not much good in summer, bring on winter.

I have been thinking of new luggage but 4 or 5 Kg just for a bag on wheels seems ridiculous. That is 25% of my airline weight allowance just for the bag and it is 33% for some budget airlines!

Just paid £25 for a brand new Mountain Equipment Gore Tex Pro-Shell jacket with very slight discoloration on the hood (probably my all-time best bargain) and £10 for a perfect-condition Ronhill Gore Windstopper soft shell. Both were bought as presents as they didn't have equivalents in my size.

kitenski, not online unfortunately, but from a Mountain Range stall at a rowing regatta. I think they've taken over from Magic Mountain as a Sprayway/Ronhill/ME outlet, and they have an ebay stall here: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/mountain-range-uk?_rdc=1 - already scanned for similar bargains and there isn't anything quite as good, but they do have a selection of unblemished ME Pro Shells between £100 and £200 and lots and lots of cheap Ronhill kit.

Sideshow_Bob, if you are ever at another regatta and see a similiar goretex jacket for £25 in L grab one for me would you!! I want it for hockey training, so don't want to spend the earth but need waterproof and breathable....

Or it'd be a nice Xmas present for me Smile

Hells Bells, Cotswold outdoor is where I got my new goretex jacket for walking in, in the store in Keswick on Monday I took a navy coloured women's Berghaus long length Glissade style jacket off them for £99, which from what I've seen on the internet seems a good price.

Um dare I ask about the commercial nature of some of these posts.
After a cursory look, it appears to me, no-one who has posted anything above stands to gain commercially from doing so.

Any opinions either way?

Depends what exactly do you mean by commercial gain?

In an case, seeing as people can sign up as members instantly, and post staight away, the whole thread seems ripe for abuse.

So what exactly constitues spam on this forum.
Based on previous experience its not money.
Or if you profit by it. -Nope
Maybe its ok if you just genuinely want to offer a great opportunity to fellow skier out of your altruistic nature- errr Nope.
Im having real difficulty with this
Maybe its just arbitrary and depends on who is feeling trigger happy on the day.

whatever way you look at it, that holiday is a pretty good deal for one snowhead or another!

maybe it should just be a bargain gear thread?

so far, this thread has saved me £300 - can only be a good thing Very Happy

nixmap, FYI I started this thread as I though SH's could genuinely benefit from fellow Very Happy s sharing their bargains - which a lot of people now have (albeit have now spent a few hundres £ in the process Laughing ). The vast majority people posting on this thread have posts exceeding 1000, which would indicate they're not spammers, and I can understand why the post above regarding the Snow Finders offer could be construed as spam - this was simply an email I had received from them, which I copied and pasted - was of no interest to me but certainly seems like a good deal to me given that I would normally have to pay £275 just to fly from Scotland to Alps.

I have always bought my ski gear between May and Sept as this is when you can get the end of season stock at discount prices (I should have been a Yorkshireman wink )

I have no commercial interests in any of the posts.

PS PM me if you want some snow chains and helmets at rock bottom prices guvna

scotia, One of the most intelligent ads I've seen for a long time - if only all ads said the equivalent of 'model is 5'10" and is wearing a size small' life would be much easier.

Megamum, you're shopping in the wrong places if it the ads don't. Some places even give measurements!

Then you can post your own questions or snow reports...
scotia, The trouble with measurements is you are often just pointed at a measurements page for the whole clothing company and told size x is measurements A,B,C etc. This then doesn't account for the fact that most companies will be sourcing their clothing ranges from a range of suppliers all cutting on different patterns and lasts. For example I picked up two pair of identically styled and sized walking trousers the other week, tried on one pair - good fit, went back to rail for 2nd pair and had to have different colour in same style and size and no others left. I went to put on other pair once at home and I swear it must have been 3 ladies sizes smaller than those I'd tried on (they went back of course). I've done the same buying high leg boots on-line, and often had problems with sizes in this way - I'm now very wary of buying stuff that I haven't tried on first as I would be forever sending back stuff. It is quite possible to measure yourself, buy what you would think fits and to then come unstuck. In fact I think the ads for clothes on the TV are better, they often tell you how big the models are, what size they are wearing and you can also see how the clothes move and where they fall from on the body much easier - mind you I still tend to shop in stores and try stuff on Laughing
