Helen Beaumont, I assume you've returned back to the UK now. It looks like from the roof of Bachas that it has snowed over the weekend. I believe I'm just in town for the Serre Chevalier Derby. Is that the event where everyone tries to get down a course as quick as possible? Anybody been?

Helen Beaumont, Christopher, it did snow, but so little it wasn't worth reporting or at least it was like that down here, more forecast for coming weekend. Fingers crossed

Its been a while since it last snowed properly.
A question I've meant to ask for a while is what is the 'Porridge Run'?. All the tour ops refer to it, in their brochures.
On Crystal's website:
Bump fiends will enjoy moguls the size of milk-floats on the twisting runs to Le Bez and speed freaks will love the superb 'Olympic Luc Alphand' black run. Also recommended is the locally named 'Porridge Run', a gun-barrelled kamikaze route through gullies, ravines and trees; while for powderhounds, there's the steep and deep ecstasy of high Grande Alpe.
Is this an actual off piste run? or has this been made up? I've never heard of it.

I think the Southern Alps have missed out on weather systems to the further north over the past couple of days.
However look what is forecasted http://www.snow-forecast.com/resorts/Serre-Chevalier/6day/top
its a while away, but still a good positive forecast that is needed for opening in 2 and a half weeks.

Its the start of the winter properly (he says hopefully), I've started looking at the wonderfully coloured maps on snow forecast.
Although its a dissapointingly long time until I will be able to enjoy it.

It should be snowing today according to all the weather forecasts. The webcams look overcast, hopefully a storm is on its way.
One another note I'm definitely in Serre Chevalier on the 20th March, just booked the UCPA up!!!!

Mate of mine a Guide who lives just up from La Grave sent me this nice image this morning - and looks like a good dump all week, hopefully it's falling over the Col in Serre as well - just bought the season passes as you get 25% off before Dec 1 - coming out Mar 6 - April 10th though hoping for a quick week in Jan now you're getting some snow. Mates wife I spoke this am says the local farmers think it's going to be snowy winter - well that's confirmed then !!!
Mind you just had an awsome 4 weeks of wind N'waves here on the South Coast at Worthing, maxed out windsurfing nearly every day in some very big seas - some of you may have seen a mate of mine who jumped the pier here on his kite board http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/newsid_8360000/newsid_8363700/8363731.stm

And this from http://pistehors.com/news/forums/viewthread/379/ so hopefully Serre will pick up a fair bit
Meteo France is warning that the Mercantour in the Southern Alps may get up to 2 meters of fresh snow over the next 48 hours as a classic autumn weather pattern of a a low pressure traverses the Mediterranean. This pattern is referred to as a retour de l’Est, normally the snow front is blocked by the high mountains of the French Italian border but expect fresh snow for border resorts such as Val d’Isere. It remains to be seen how much of this snow will maked into the interior ranges but the Western Pyrenees amd Corsica could also benefit. The bulk of the snow will fall at altitude (>1800 m) accompanied by strong southerly winds. Taken care at altitude on northern aspects where slabs could be in place sitting on fragile base layers.

kevducky, I wish my morning consisted of that. I was starting work at 7 in rather chilly weather having to work both inside and outside working a delivery, with not even a flake in sight.
Slightly jealous.
On another note, the snow looks good and plentiful. But it seemed it was a bit windy at the top although not overly so.
