there's the valley between Morrillon and Samoens that has no runs/lifts. Not sure if that's becasue of avalanche risks or just to preserve animal habitat. If not, then its crying out to be developed.

simo1234, under the "Lanche" lift I assume you mean. There are lots of "slides" there and the runs close very quickly if weather changes - I'm sure that could be controlled though. Perhaps you should suggest it !

[quote="stevo_the_saddler"]simo1234, It will ease congestion on the 2 slow lifts, only problem may be the top of Samoens which gets busy at the junction of all the lifts -
We call that bit 'Wacky Races'!

Freestyle, It is a bit like that - only for about 100 metres - ski-school carnage

stevo_the_saddler, I agree, I hope they do something about the 'M25' at the top. At half term it was extremely dangerous in the afternoon with too many people skiing at inappropriate speeds. I had to protect my two kids backs to avoid them getting wiped out/ cut up by these idiots and 'suitable words of advice' were given on quite a few occasions. Even many years ago I know of somebody whose skiing career was ended here.

steve, Unfortunately it gives access to lots of beginner area - but the first 100 metres is far from beginner because of the numbers of people and it's fairly narrow. It is perfectly easy when quiet, but by 2 in the afternoon once chopped up a bit, those that are less than confident red-runners start to panic and all hell lets loose. I'm sure if they are putting in a new lift there ought to be a solution by making it finish further left so that you have a choice of directions.

Les Carroz has 120cm at the top and 20cm in the village. Locals are getting excited about a possible early opening - maybe 13th Dec rather than 20th that is scheduled. Also, is due to remain cold over coming weeks which should hopefully enable the base to set properly.

simo1234, hope it stays that way for my visit at new year. Long range forecast looks a bit warm for around 5th Dec with light rain forecast though

I never put too much reliance on the long term forecasts, unless it suggests snow - I then let my excitement overrule my previous view!

Looks like there's been good snow recently and the outlook seems to remain cold. Just been some beautiful webcam images from the top of Flaine in the sunset! Hoping the snow remains great until I'm out there at the beginning of February.

mfj197, you really don't want me to tell you....................... with 7 weeks UK bound I would only cause your misery and despair!
Needless to say, it was great, loads and loads of the real stuff and they're still blowing to add to it!!
Clear skies, great snow, empty pistes, no queues, free passes........... it could have been worse!!

stevo_the_saddler,
3 Mickey's & 3 brummies! I'm sure that we'll hear one another coming before we see one another! With the £ getting battered against the € we may have to just split a pitcher then.
Keep an eye on the webcams today & tomorrow, hopefully we'll see the white stuff falling.

Hi Guys,
4 of us (all blokes 30 - 40) coming to Flaine on the 15th for the 1st time, staying in PV Flaine Foret. Any tips on where best to drink / eat / ski etc? Would be greatly appreciated. Are the beer prices as bad as I am being told by others.
Also any sniff of new snow?

Reded - Beers pretty steep, €6 for a pint in the Flying Dutchman so bring a hipflask.
The food's a bit better value (relatively). Try the Dutchman & the White Pub for pub grub. The Bar des Cimes is good for a cheap and cheerful meal (€20pp - main & half decent bottle). The Grain De Sel is great, friendly and welcoming with good savoie food, also as an added bonus Clement will ply you with Genepi at the end of the night.
Skiing is pretty great, although busy at the moment (won't be a problem on the 15th). Do not go off piste in the flaine bowl without a guide unless you want to spend the rest of your holiday at the bottom of a hole. If you are going to use a guide then I can recommend Manu Socie, he works out of the Blackside cafe/shop in forum.
If the gers bowl is open by then i'd suggest just skiing the one run for the whole week!
I'll be around and about, so say hello if you see a skier wearing easyjet orange trousers and a black jacket, you can't miss me.....

Thanks guys. Will keep an eye out for the orange pants - sound very fetching.
The hip flask has already been received as a Christmas gift so will be the first thing packed.
Can't wait to go now, hope there is plenty more snow between now and then
