Is it illegal to demand money on a public web site? Puzzled |
abc, of course it is. It's just the same as writing a letter, ring up on the phone, sending a text, fax or any other form of communication the victim can (a) understand and (b) feel menaces by.

So your only recourse is politely ask for your money, until the person/party "feels like" paying you back?

OMG. Just noticed that the SkiGB.com offers 10% off. Can we establish if this includes beer? I may have to change my vote.

abc, you are entitled to use all legal means to recoup any monies owing to you. Using menace and inferred threats would put on the wrong side of the law.

Frosty the Snowman, 10% off the rental of apartments in VT only I think Frosty - payment by dodgy transfer to A/C number to be confimed on snowheads forum, menaces (Dennis or otherwise) optional.

Frosty the Snowman, there were a few offers to do it and if SkiGB or the other two had felt threatened they could complain to the police, who would then be duty bound investigate.

... 18 months later if you're lucky.
Police would not be at all interested in this. Menace (if there was any and I don't think there was) needs to be a good deal more menacing.

PJSki: Hello Officer, I'd like to report a serious crime... I've just been threatened with menaces.
Officer: I see, and where did this incident occur?
PJSki: On an internet chat room called Snowheads... It's all about skiing and stuff
Officer: Hmmmm, and who was it that threatened you?
PJSki: Well, a fella by the name of SkiGB.com and I've got witnesses... they're called Frosty The Snowman, abc, red 27, Axsman....
Officer: Have you been drinking Sir? Step this way please... to be continued...

Frosty the Snowman, like I said, it would be down to the three people involved and whether they felt threatened or not. One had his home address given out, which could have added to any level of threat he felt.

Frosty the Snowman, the gang-like reaction could have left SkiGB feeling vulnerable and threatened. He himself said that the reaction seemed unfriendly toward him.

PJSki, Well if you had then you may think differently about what is some gentle tomfoolery on an internet forum. Threats, implied or otherwise - no. Criticism for folks who owe money and don't communicate in such circumstances - yes.
