Valéry Giscard d'Estaing in Courchevel about 25 years ago. Very cool looking black skis/boots. Wouldn't have noticed him but was with a load of French people who got extremely excited - he'd not long stopped being President.

The thread title is famous though, not important. Hence a sighting of Jade Goody would justify a mention, even though she's famous for feck all.....

Elizabeth B, I'd expect Michael Milton to be known by people with a real interest in the sport of skiing.... The Canadians I met in whistler certainly know him, so do a lot of people in Colorado, and even the Italians knew him by reputation if not by name.... but then they are all places with very keen skiing populations I suppose.

Jerry,
I actually popped in to contribute having seen Prince Charles in Klosters once (yawn) but decided that that was even more coma-inducingly boring even than It Girls. obscure (at least to me) sporting heroes, and a whole load of other people of whom I'd never heard. Certainly, none of this, however heroic the nominees, is worth a hissy fit.
little tiger, if you will permit me a morsel of pedantry, we generally refer to Torino as Turin when speaking English.
