Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

stewart woodward, I don't remember the leisse chairlift working on Monday, or on any day in between then and now.

There was fresh snow on the glacier yesterday too, I meant it more in terms of which lifts were open.

Going to Tignes with 5 mates on the 12th of Jan. We were in Andorra last Jan and the lack of snow really spoilt the hol. Crossing our fingers loads will fall in Tignes before we arrive. wink

Great snow but a bit windy today Blush

Cable car closed due to high winds so Champagny lift was busy Sad
3500 lifts very quiet giving immediate access to deserted pistes Blush
Checked out Rossolin lift, just to make sure it was open for RJS wink , but decided against a ski down. Will have to wait untill tomorrow Blush

Had a quick ski down Rossolin, which was very slow due to all the new snow, and managed to avoid all the new Chaps in RAF uniforms. Who's defending blighty this week Puzzled

Decided to ski all the way down to Val Claret for the first time this season on Double M which was in V good condition.

Looking forward to a good week with a few clear days and slightly lower temperatures Laughing Laughing

Flew back from Geneva this morning having spend fri - sun skiing at Tignes. Both weather and snow got better as the trip went on. Completely delighted to have had 1400 vertical metres of good quality snow available to me; Double M is in great nick. Managed to nab one run off the Grande Motte cable car yesterday morning before the wind got the better of it, and found some fantastic wind blown fresh snow on skiers left of the main black piste. Leisse was also very good yesterday.

Was out there on the boot camp, I've no idea how they make the sums add up. The hotel was comfortable and well run, and the food spectacularly good. Nice one.

Yep, echo that. Fri was poor vis but good snow from continuous dump of previous 2 days. Sat saw mostly sunshine vis with occas banks of clouds drifting onto and off the ski area. Perfect packed powder on the glacier runs and all the way down to Val Claret. Sun was lovely and sunny with a few cm of snow overnight on packed powder so total hero snow, the kind so good that if you couldn't perform on it you really needn't bother to show up again! Windy though! Fresh tracks on some of the glacier runs and a little way off piste in only slightly wind blown snow. Snow cover off piste turned out to be only just enough in some bits but they weren't our skis Toofy Grin wink No blown edges or core shots though Little Angel

motatapu, missed you completely!

What's perfect packed powder? Sounds less than perfect to me, surely unpacked powder is perfect?

From the GFS model which updates every day on page 1, it looks like there is going to be continuing small amounts of wet snow over the next 10 days or so.

Probably good news for Tignes and the upper runs, less good for the lower runs though.

I'm out on the 16th so I'm hopeful that at least some of the links will be open by then.

Peter S, that graph is actually quite a bit south and definitely too far east (it's on the Italian side of the main ridge) to be very good for Tignes. Try more like 50cm+ coming up this Sunday and Monday with a snowline dropping down below Brevieres wink Very uncertain outlook after Monday.

slikedges, not really, Tignes kind of falls half way between gridpoints unfortunately.

... but if you have a look at the meteograms, you'll hopefully see what I mean. This one's pretty near Tignes:

... this ones's at the location (near Sestriere) that the ensemble chart was posted for ...

brian, yep, pity that they don't allow a three digit gridref which is decimal capable Confused I like the charts you posted too, esp for wind info, and more accurate positioning, but always think the other gentler to look at!

Peter S, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but amounts seem to dwindle on every run at the moment. The perils of trying to forecast precip amounts even at medium range I guess. Sad Sorry folks Embarassed How does another 10cm sound ? Confused

Well it's the end of another weeks skiing in Tignes, although i am skiing tomorrow with another snowHead , and time for a well deserved rest.

With the exception of Monday when the higher lifts were closed due to high winds its been a great week. Lots & lots of sunshine, warm temperatures and very little wind Blush

The piste on the glacier are in good condition but Double M, back down to Val Claret, could do with a little snow in places Confused The Tignes web site has been updated to show the lifts/pistes opening tomorrow as the Espace Killy opens up for the season Laughing Laughing Laughing

I will have a ski around some of the newly opened pistes tomorrow and try to post a few pics.
