Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Today's snow reached the valley floor, although I'm not sure how long it will last at lower levels because the temperature at 1800m is around 0°. I'd say about 15cm fell at resort level, hopefully a bit more than that higher up.

After a bit of rain this morning its snowed heavily all day at 1800, and still is. I'd say that about 18" + has fallen so far. The snow plow cleared the roads about 2 hours ago and they're covered again now. The only downside is that the vis is a bit hit and miss. although as I type this its started to clear.

tsmales: Hi Tim, hope you're having a great time with all the new snow. This warning was posted on another thread by davidof of PisteHors.com

Avalanche Warning - Monday 12th February 2007

The weather system over the course of Monday dumped 20 to 40cm of fresh snow at 2000m, 40 to 60cm at 2500m but with accumulations of snow due to the wind from the west. There have been three separate falls of snow since last Wednesday bringing 60 to 90cm of fresh to the Bauges and Beaufortain and 50cm elsewhere.

There are fresh slabs, particularly above 2000m on north sector slopes. These slabs resemble fresh powder and are very difficult to detect visually. A single skier or snowboarder could start a sizeable avalanche which could be sizeable on an open slope. Lower down take care on close to summits, convex slopes especially north-east to east slope aspects.

The sun will return in the Savoie and Haute-Savoie during the course of Tuesday. The off-piste will look particularly inviting but the risk are very high at the moment even on quite low slope angles. If you know anyone in resort send them this message.

Just got back from a blinding days skiing. It was a bit cloudy first thing but that cleared by about 11.00. Another 18" or so fell overnight, that combined with a blue sky and sunshine made for almost perfect conditions as the day developed in and around 1800 (where we've stayed most of the day). I'll put some photos on later if I can remember how. Very Happy Very Happy

Just got back from another cracking days skiing. This morning was great early on with the sunshine poking through the clouds even up at Arcs 2000. No fresh snow overnight but what was out there was well groomed, with plenty of powder still lying around in the trees.. A bit of fresh snow fell at lunchtime, but this has turned to rain now, and its looking a bit gray. All in all another great days skiing, going to soak my aching limbs now and a medicinal beer or two. Very Happy

Nah, waist deep powder everywhere. Good times to visit will be 2nd March, 27 March and 11 April when it's bound to dump down on the day I leave the resort (just like every other time this season!).

11th April eh? Goodness, an opportunity to meet a fellow snowHead on the piste, or, from the looks of the photos you've posted so far this season, off piste!

Very Happy I've just got in from another fantastic day in and around Les Arcs.. No fresh snow today though. It started off very cloudy and icy on the piste, but as the sun broke through at about 10.00ish it just got better and better all day. The sun softened the icy bits and burned off all the cloud, leaving spectacular views and skiing. The bowl above Arc 200 was like a huge suntrap, as my goggle burn illustrates quite well. Everythings starting to get a bit slushy now, although more snow is forcast for tomorrow. Can't wait.. Very Happy

So have I picked the wrong week or will it snow from 2 March til 17th?

Nik, Here's hoping it will snow from 2nd March to 17th April....

Actually Rob, if you could arrange it so it just snows overnight 1st - 14th April whilst we are in resort again, so much nicer of the snowgods not only bring it on, but at the right time of day too don'tcha think?

See you at the Squirrel!

PS a tad peeved, was nearly out next week, for a 1/2 day ski , but my meeting in BSM has just been cancelled. Rats! ( Still, what a carbon footprint - 1500 miles for a three hour session...hmm not sure I could justify that one anyway...)

Last year I was at Les Arcs 1950 which is about 50 metres down the road from 2000 wink I didn't have a look round 2000, but friends said it looked slightly dead. There is a cable car which runs late which allows people who come down to the bars and such in 1950 to get back home and vice versa. Take all this with a pinch of salt however - as I said, I've not actually been around 2000 myself. The whole place is fairly expensive - I guess comparable with Verbier.

Nik, Don't know about evening 'to do's in 2000, although there is a cinema, and the Chez Eaux restaurant is good value and serve great food. But daytime prices are significantly cheaper than 1950, which is selling itself as an up market resort, so would expect simlar differentials to apply in the evening.

1950 is, as Matthew says, just pedestrian lift away ( or indeed a bus ride on the free navettes) , and has plenty of bars. Including the Tour de Vins, owned and run by a couple of English guys: a bit of an oddity really - a wine shop that sells beer yet has a bar in it, so you can open and pour rather than wait to get home! And a night club under Luigis til 3am most days - of course, for that you will need to make your own way back up either the road or piste...

But no, 1950 is not the cheapest place in the Alps.

I managed to lose my whole group on my first afternoon, when the lift attendandant caught me using somebody else's season pass in 2000! Not my fault of course, it was the one given to me by the company I was guiding for. I got fined 120 euros, was escorted to the caash machine and had to go straight back to Vallandry. It worked out well for me, as I was reimbursed and the pass was transferred into my name. I paid 20 euros towards the admin cost, and now have a season pass I can use when I go back for two weeks. Very Happy Fortunately my group found their way back!
