Just back today from La Ros after a great week, more like spring ski-ing than Jan but hey ho.
Mix of weather from cloud and fog, snow and rain, more snow and lots of sun (8 degrees yesterday afternoon). Good ski-ing throughout and very quiet. The link to La Thuile was open most days but closed once due to high winds over in Italy. Snow conditions were good except for lower down in the afternoon when it went a bit heavy. Some bare patches were appearing towards the end of the week and this morning it was sunny with no sign of snow. Freezing level was above 2000m. All runs were open except for fontaine froid which goes down to 1176m. The bottom end of Marmottes was also looking bare in places.
Also quite a few injuries (a guy in the chalet broke his shoulder on a 2' jump when he stopped unexpectedly) so take care.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Hunsbury, Thanks for the update. Noticed the bottom section of Marmottes was closed today. Where did you stay? Any good?

Frosty, This was the 'family' trip so we stayed in an Esprit chalet 'Ferme d'Elise' right on the piste slightly below the main 6 man chair out of the village. An ok chalet, child care was great as usual with Esprit, but we wouldn't go back to this chalet as it was very small and the food could have been better.

Hi Hunsbury
Glad to read that you have enjoyed La Rosiere. I shall be going out to try and ski (have had a fifteen year gap) Looking forward to meeting up with my son Len who drives the mini bus for Esprit. Did you come across him?
|
|
|
|
|
|
HAZYTRON,
Len was one person I didn't come across as we didn't need the transport during my stay and they have so many staff in resort (about 50ish) to meet them all.
A good resort to get back into ski-ing with some long forgiving blues. Tetras back to the resort from the top of the 6 man chair is great to get those legs back again. Enjoy.

Hi Hunsbury, Thanks for the update
Slightly off topic but you mentioned "This was the 'family' trip so we stayed in an Esprit chalet 'Ferme d'Elise' right on the piste slightly below the main 6 man chair out of the village. I am staying in Chalet Begonia/Ferme D'Elisa in early Feb - which apartment were you in & what was wrong with the food?

I was planning to write something in the snow in front of the webcam when I was there, however the view is quite deceiving as the area of snow in front of the roof is actually on a flat roof its self. Thought about climbing up but didn't want to get arrested.
If any of you manage to write inything in the snow I'll buy you a pint

"Hello johnboy at snowheads.com!"
That sounds like a challenge...

johnboy, i had a look up at that roof and thought exactly the same thing! There seemed to be a way up onto it but i didn't fancy getting myself into trouble.
Take it you and MrsJohnboy got back safe and sound? We arrived back in the hills above manchester to an absolute blizzard of snow! More snow in 2 hours at home than we had in a week in La Ros... Almost forced to abandon my car and walk a mile home with my luggage!
