Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@nevis1003, I think it was strikes at a couple of refineries, on eon the south coast and one near Le Havre. I understand these are waning. You can still see this regional effect here:

Lots of mates have come and gone through Tignes over the last 3 weeks, none have reported any difficulty with fuel.

Certainly didn't notice any fuel issues driving from Eurotunnel to Val d'Isere today. No major delays, just a small accident and general weight of rush hour traffic round Chambery.

I did see one sign on the autoroute somewhere around the middle of my journey on Monday that there was no GPL somewhere to the north. So I presume anyone driving could expect similar warnings. Obviously sensible not to let tank get too empty, but seems unlikely to be any significant problems.

We drove home Saturday/ Sunday just gone and had no shortages or delays at all either way. Equally we were mindful not to get too low on the gazole but wasn’t a problem.

Fuel situation is improving - probably the fact it is 1.90 - 2.10 per liter helps avoid people stocking up.

The missus place of work is blockaded again this morning so she can't access her office. Everyone waiting for the constitutional court to pronounce on the legality of the pension law. Probably will go through, maybe with some minor adjustments.

Currently on the ferry, on the way up the only rupture signed on the motorways was gpl at a station close to Paris. But when I got to the intermarche near the gite it had no petrol but plenty of diesel.

Anyone driven across France from Val / Tignes to Calais and experienced fuel problems this weekend? Just wondering if the situation has changed since the drive down before Easter when things seemed ok.

Thanks

Came back yesterday. No issues at all.

Fuel is generally not a problem, it was much worse in the autumn. There is another general strike on Thursday and more disruption threatened for 1st May. For Thursday I'm changing rail travel plans.

Thanks. Came back today and all was good. Motorways mentioned a few services without fuel heading towards Paris but assume that is more likely to be generally low stock after holiday traffic returns.

Eurotunnel was running smoothly this evening too. French border control had empty booths and the queues were for UK border (but only small).

Major strikes this weekend for the 1 May. Probably mainly affecting flights for snowheads if travelling to France.

Sorry to resurrect a dormant thread, but when searching the forum to see if anyone else had already asked the same question as below this thread seemed to keep coming up...

Anyway, I see that the connexionfrance.com website is reporting SNCF ticket inspectors in the SUD-Rail union plan to strike from February 15 to 19th. Despite searching the web, and checking the cestlagreve.fr site mentioned earlier in this thread, I can't find any other information about it.

Does anybody know how likely it is to happen, and if it does happen how likely it is to affect the TGV routes? I have no idea what typically happens in this respect.

My wife and daughter are due to travel London to Grenoble (i.e. Eurostar to Paris, then InOui TGV to Grenoble) on Monday 19th, on a through ticket booked with Eurostar. I've got time to switch them to flying to Lyon (for about a sixth of the price!), but don't want to overreact or jump too soon if I'm worrying about nothing. My concern is either the trains will only be cancelled the day before and then there won't be time to rearrange, or worse they'll get as far as Paris and then be stranded.

I know people can't predict the future, but any suggestions/advice from previous experience would be appreciated please!

 You know it makes sense.
You know it makes sense.
Strike action is scheduled for the 16, 17, 18th with things returning to normal on the 19th after 8am but sometimes it can take longer as trains and staff are in the wrong place.

Generally you get 48h notice on train cancellations. If a train is shown as running but you can't book it is because the management think they may cancel it.

The big issue is it is often difficult to rebook on an alternative route.

Usually the TGV is less affected than TER services. In a ratio of 1/3 TGVs not running to 1/2 TERs not running but the SNCF tends to bin certain routes to maintain a better service on commuter lines.

There is also strike action scheduled for the whole summer during the paris olympics.

Thanks @davidof, that's really helpful. For a start I hadn't realised the 19th was a recovery day rather than a full strike day.

At the moment, it's still possible to book that train, but I appreciate it's still two weeks away so that probably doesn't mean much.

For the moment I think we'll sit tight and hope for the best.

I am scheduled for the 18th from CDG through Lyon to Grenoble. If my train looks to be cancelled, I'll book a backup flight from CDG to LYS. If I can get to Lyon and there is no TER to Grenoble, there are plenty of FlixBus and BlaBlaCar Bus options from Lyon Saint Exupery airport.
