Grimentz and Zinal look wonderful on all the photos that are available on the web.
However I do worry that due to their locations deep in a north south orientated steeply sided valley, the winter sun will spend only fleeting moments illuminating the village. Thus making the lower areas very dark (albei,t sheltered from storms etc). I guess the positive side is that this potential dinginess will prove a major incentive in going up the hill to ski......
Those who have been to these locations may like to either confirm, deny or otherwise comment on this unvisted/inexperienced opinion....

Bryan, Grimentz faces predominantly East, so gets a lot of sun in the morning. It's on a shelf set above the valley floor with quite an open aspect across the valley. I've been there on the 3rd April and the village was still sunny into the early evening but it will obviously lose the sun in the darker months considerably earlier than the St Luc side of the valley.

So no nice alpine sunsets to gaze at after a great day on the slopes then?

Bryan, sadly not, the best that can be mustered is watching the alpenglow and then the stars appearing. Great sunrises filled with anticipation though.

I've skiied all over North America, and a little bit in Europe, and its difficult to beat these three
Lake Louise , Alberta
Zermatt, Switzerland
Heavenly Valley, California/Nevada
LL in particular is just jaw dropping, and totally undeveloped.

You know it makes sense.

I would have thought that the answer is so obvious that no-one has bothered to say it yet.
It would have to be La Rosiere wouldn't it? I've not actually been to the village/town, but somehow I feel I know it so well...

Ray Zorro, La Ros is actually not bad by French standards and because of its position perched on a hillside at over 1800m the views are sensational.

Ray Zorro, La Rosiere is a very ugly place. That combined with its dull skiing, crowded slopes, shocking lift system, american style restaurants, extortionate lift pass prices, mega resort impersonality and renowned poor snow record would make for a shocking holiday. February is the worst month to go to this hell hole. Give me Castleford or Borovets any day.

I think you are right. Too steep for Chamonix, too many trees for Montalbert.
