well it was horrid today, not too cold but a bit of wind, lots of fog and it was snowing. In fact here is a pic of snow. I had trouble breathing on the glacier, but it was better lower down (I did have lots of clothes on). Got the van back tonight too.
On the whole the snow was pretty good, about 10cms of fresh up top, but quite firm underneath. skied pretty much all around the mountain except for the Fee, and had great soft, slightly wet snow on Valentin at around 4.30. It was much better than I expected at the bottom, but in the village it never got beyond sleet I'm afraid. Still with Grande Pente Yesterday and Valentin today, no probs skiing down. I think Valentin will be OK till the end of the month, GP and others probably for another week with care.

I haven't received any confirmation about our ESF snowboarding lessons that I booked online to start on Sunday-should I be worried? I have emailed the company but have had no response. Does anyone know where we have to go for our 1st lesson and what time it would be? Thanks

beachlou, I booked lessons online with ESF LDA for my daughter to start Sunday and they posted the pass, etc to me. The times were on the booking system and also in the confirmation email (meeting point too), my daughter's starts later on the first day. I would go to the ESF office when you arrive to sort it out when you arrive.

Colin B, Thanks for that. I have had no confirmation email whatsoever, but the money has come out of our account, so I am presuming we are booked in. Have sent another email, but again, no reply. I think we will arrive too late on Saturday to do anything about it so will be up on Sunday to get it sorted. Can anyone tell me where the ESF offices are? Thanks

beachlou, Their system was pretty clunky. The ESF office is in front of the main lifts at Place Les Deux Alpes.

Here are some pix from yesterday - sorry, won't have time today. First is view of Ecrins. Second is looking down Echines de Chevres from the middle and third is looking up from the same point (steeper than it looks). Nice powder snow, but as you can see a bit tracked out.

Thanks easiski I'm having to see when I can get away, the 23rd will now be the very earliest so I'm not sure if it's worth it with everything closing at the end of the week - might have to cast the net wider but will see.

It was a very odd day today. At first it was hot and sunny - actually much too hot. The snow on the Cretes was positively gooey by lunchtime and got pregressively slower and wetter through the afternoon. However around 15.00 or so it began to cloud over (but not over us), and there were monster black clouds all around + thunder and lightning! ADH and Auris looked to be in the middle of it, but it never quite made it over here. It was enough for them to start pushing peeps off the hill at around 16.00 though (but we stayed out). It was also enough to cause the lift in our building (and my own electricity) to cut off - so I had to walk up 6 flights of stairs to get home. Here's a pic of the big black cloud ......
We also hd a nice drink later in the Lutins with Annie, Colin B and Chris Bish + many other Easiskiers and kids

Returned from a week in LDA yesterday morning and really enjoyed. Thought snow was brilliant higher up and for first part off week pretty good on Cretes etc. If you timed your sking right lift queues weren't a problem. We weren't fussed on being out on slopes before 10.30 so didn't really have any queues, tried to do most of our skiing over lunch when mountain was quiet. Nightlife was excellent but downside of week was getting back to van after skiing one day to discover huge dent in the side. Will claim on insurance but will still cost me a bit in excess etc

Warm and sunny this am, but clouded over in the pm. Got positively chilly on the glacier and I felt my toes! It was snowing right down to the Cretes when we finished at 17.30, but not heavily. spitting with rain in town. A little fresh last night higher up, very powdery, but only about 5cms - better than nothing though!
Hoping for a good day tomorrow as promised - sorry not to have photo today.

Very warm today, and sunny most of the time. The glacier was great all day, and it wasn't nearly as busy as yesterday. I had a mjor contretemps with a very obnoxious english teenager and his even more obnoxious father - teen nearly knocked over one of my little kids (we were only using half a wide piste), then would have knocked me over if I hadn't been able to turn instantly. I caught him and berrated him, and he kept saying I was over-reacting and he was in control and not close to me. Red wasn't the colour I saw - I nearly hit him with my stick. Father, of course, kept saying son was no probs. the boy was totally out of control - no apologies - no respect and as I say nearly knocked over a quite small child.
Anyway, that was a 2600, so we went to the glacier which was much better. snow was slushy below 3000m at 17.00, but below 2,600 was strangely OK. Here is pic of view at around 17.00 - empty pistes

Frosty the Snowman, easiski, I must admit that the behaviour of some of our "fellow" countrymen while on the slopes does embarass me - I'm pleased to say that the same does not apply to my own "youffs".

Very warm today, sunny (getting silly now). Snow fine on glacier and a bit slushy lower down, however I didn't ski lower from about 10.30 until about 17.00, so it was probably OK most of the day. Took photo but no time to post, will try tomorrow am if I can't sleep again!

Last week in LDA there were two english teens having a full on fight on the slopes throwing punches the lot . Presume they were on a school trip. ESF instructor holding them apart astonished at what he was seeing. Embarrassing as it was i did have a little laugh as the two stroppy teens were forced to shake hands.

Miserable all day today. A bit windy above about 2,800m and snowing later (fairly hard at the top of the Lac Noir chairlift). Generally yukky. did find some super snow in various spots (bit of brainwork), and here's a pic of the kids having skied down the Valentin (which was revoltingly heavy)
