There go my kids uni trips. One due to go to Avoriaz on 1st Jan and the other to Tignes on 7th Jan. This will be the start of others following suit, so I doubt our trip to Hinterglemm on 8th Jan will happen now. Seriously f**ked off man.

Anyone with any knowledge of how arrivals into resort on Saturday, who entered France late Friday will be impacted ?
Son due to depart on Uni ski trip, I think it’d be risky ( !! ) to go ahead....

If he arrives in France on Friday, then I can’t see it being an issue.

We have travel to Geneva and taxi booked to take us on to courcheval. Land Friday 3pm.
This seems ok. Only question my more sensible other half keeps asking is what if they shut resorts down? Will we be able to get back?

I was planning to fly over on the 27th Dec for a week over NY.
So that's not happening.
I'm keeping my flights for end January though, for now, that might be ok...

I don't blame the French. Our Government is closing things down by stealth if you look closely at the manipulating language - we're not closing hospitality but think carefully before you go out socialising........ we're not restricting travel further but look out (other countries) because we're about to break Covid infection levels in the next few weeks.
Sadly, the French want to save their Christmas too. I think all of this is very knee jerk but no one really has the answers yet as to whether Omicron will lead to a serious increase in deaths. If so, I'd expect ski resorts to all close again.

Gutted, though probably could have predicted it. We were due to be leaving on Boxing Day for a week in Arc 1950. One very small plus is that we had booked c. £320 worth of return antigen and day 2 PCR tests with C19 and we are able to get a refund less a £13 admin charge per test. Won’t be able to go later in the season as our kids are doing A levels and GCSEs this summer.

You know it makes sense.

I know it doesen't help Christmas travel but I imagine that within weeks France will be equally swamped with Omicron, and it wont make sense to keep the restrictions. Much like the UK cleared the red list earlier this week because our rates have worsened.

@ringingmaster, I suspect France already equally swamped ... much less sequencing being done I think, OWiD thinks FR worse than uk ...
I have lots of sympathy for all of you planning on coming over here, sadly we were planning on going over there ...

Absolutley gutted. So frustrating the people who are willing to jump through the testing hoops, be fully vacinated (and boosted in many cases,) sort out covid pass/ pass sanitaire, happy to wear masks everywear..... etc etc are hindered in living a life for another winter.

What would happen if one flew to Italy and drove over in a rented car, assuming of course that Italians don't introduce similar restrictions? Asking for a friend (no, really, I live in Belgium and I'll drive over from here so unless they close all frontiers I'll be there...)
My friend has a EU passport - but I guess his vaccinations will show up as done in the UK when checked? |
have you researched this? This still seems like it would work?

There are now tests required entering Italy from France, though both are Schengen. And new restrictions likely any minute, probably.

President OMacron is going for the bold optical measure as opposed to making preparations for the wave that is going to engulf France before Christmas. He'll not be getting many votes in the Alps! |
I know! I don't quite get it - Omicron is already very much in France. Surely some of the safest people will be those who have had to have about a gazillion tests before they get into the country. Admittedly my perspective is a little biased as I just want to go skiiing!!!!

Tests for IT -> FR not an issue. My flights are into and out of turin in IT, I had planned for all testing anyway for the flight back to the UK from IT. Even if checked at IT border I'd have the fully vaccinated proof and and negative test result, both also required for the flight. Definitely keeping an eye on things.
I'm wondering more about the IT -> FR side of things, FR appears to be imposing these restrictions and registration requirements for travelers directly from the UK, not from other EU states.

We were due to drive down on Boxing day, together with family, with Mr P and I there for at least a month...
I just want to cry. I've been holding out for this for so long.
I don't think Mr P and I can do a work around to leave by tomorrow evening. Too much to do work wise for him and me (even though I could probably go remote next week), and we would also be cancelling Christmas day at ours, which, even on a shrunk down basis, would have to involve elderly parents and immediate family.

Well my short break in Les Deux Alpes is gone. Asked for my money back from Inghams. We had money on Macron doing this though I’m afraid. At least I avoided buying tests, feel very sorry for those with children, especially forking out on tests.

@ringingmaster, When they are swamped with Omnicron, they won't want tens of thousands of visitors potentially clogging up their health service with skiing injuries, so the restrictions are likely to remain.
Even if Omnicron causes only half the rate of hospitalisation, the R rate is 2-3 times that of Delta, so the effect on services is likely to be greater.
I'm normally a glass half full person, but also a realist.

Very frustrating.
My optimism levels were on the rise (stupidly) and with just three days until flying to Toulouse, I thought we had this in the bag. Stupid me.
My kids will be gutted, we've talked up this trip so much.
Hopefully Crystal will get in touch and just refund - anyway, phone lines will undoubtedly be clogged up by those people who have a holiday book at Easter but are panicking now!
If I was the minister for Tourism in Andorra, I'd be most pi$$ed off - effectively cut off from much of one of your biggest markets.

We are booked on Brittany Ferries on Friday night arriving Saturday morning...looks as though that arrival time will be too late...feeling very sad. We are triple vaccinated and the kids double vaccinated and have paid over £500 just on tests to go let alone the holiday cost itself.

Doesn’t make sense , what are the purpose of the restrictions?
Omicron is already the dominant variant and travel has not shown to alter the figures drastically.
It would make more clinical sense to PCR 24 hours before travel to France on the proviso you are double vaccinated and booster on board. Same for return to UK.
Isolation is pointless as you would arrive in the country negative with vaccines on board.
Appears a bit tit for tat with the UK government.
Due in Avoriaz 8th Jan. clinging on to the hope that common sense might prevail.

Boom and it’s over, that’s our family Christmas holiday screwed, and I thought we are triple jabbed so we can try to get on with our lives, I must be missing something gutted for everyone. Now the scramble to get refunds if we are entitled to them? Flying to Geneva isn’t France, I hope BA are reasonable in this!
