You never went to the famous Shag Cafe in Grenoble then? |
I have a colleague who enjoys shagging in the room out the back at that cafe, he's pretty good at it. He's even done a shagging week in a gite in the Drome. Anyway he always finds willing women up for a bit of a shag. Sesseynet is a bit far for me, shagging or not. |
Is it actually a 'special interests' place then? I always just thought it was a bad attempt at a Frenglish name! Everyday a school day... |

Oh well maybe this thread should be retitled "Will French Alps Open this Season"
Hopefully what Macron will announce will be a six-week lock-down leading up the beginning of the ski season in order to try and protect Christmas.
I do think that we will be stuck in the UK and not allowed to travel to a "second home" similar to last time, that said I'm quite content to be here currently, that is until I see friends posting "face shots" from ski touring, though maybe that will be interdit like last time.
Just hope in this thread we can keep it to skiing etc and not another Covid thread inhabited by people who really have no intention to ski in France this season.

It would be fantastic to think that governments were forward thinking and looking at stricter restrictions from now to Christmas to then let us have a Christmas but do you think they have thought that anyone wants to spend Christmas with someone from another country?
Completely stupid if the British let all their population go on a free for all, the French match but we still have travel restrictions.
I am affriad my thoughts of any skiing this year are completely gone as the numbers will rocket after Christmas & new year. I can even go skiing 3 hours up the road if the conditions are good as all my gear is in France....

From Le Dauphine
https://www.ledauphine.com/skichrono/2020/10/29/reconfinement-les-glaciers-de-tignes-et-des-deux-alpes-ferment-ce-jeudi
Reconfinement : les glaciers de Tignes et des Deux-Alpes ferment ce jeudi !
Avec le reconfinement, les domaines skiables de Tignes et des Deux-Alpes ferment ce jeudi 29 octobre.
On ferme !
Now this is the optimistic bit!
Le reconfinement étant acté jusqu’au 1er décembre a minima, les différentes stations sont en attente de nouvelles annonces pour officialiser leur ouverture, en décembre.
But looks like we'll have to wait till the next announcement December 1st to see if we can even travel etc

I believe that reviews have been promised every 14 days - whether that will be an extension of the shutdown beyond December 1 or a relaxation of the restrictions from that date remains to be seen. My money would be on the former, sadly...

@snowbroad, indeed. Given the viral dynamics, I doubt we'll see any effect until after the first 14 days anyway ...

Three weeks according to a study of action taken in 133 countries that I saw recently, for the impact of a raft of social distancing restrictions. I'll see if I can find the link to it.

@under a new name, yup.
""By December 1, we will not be at 5,000 contaminations per day. I can tell you that straight away today. We will need more time," said Delfraissy, who heads the scientific council that advises the French government on the pandemic.
"The scenario is rather to have this lockdown period of one month, to look at the different types of markers and then to exit this containment through, by example, a curfew that could continue through December, possibly covering also Christmas and New Year’s Eve, and to end it only in early January", he said."

@rob@rar, three weeks sounds about right. In the UK anyway, given a person may not get symptoms for 5 days after infection and then has to book a test (can be a couple of days) and wait for the result (typically 2+ days at the moment) most of the first two weeks' data would still reflect infections before the change. If you work on the basis most people infect at least one member of their household regardless of restrictions, there will be only a small decline for another cycle. The impact on inter-household spread won't be apparent until the third week.

Please guys let's try and keep this to skiing etc and not replicate all the other Covid threads, though I know that's difficult and most posting here do by hook or by crook intend to get out to French Alps at some point or are all ready there.
I've only spoken to one mate who has six big appts and he was already booked up for the holiday season.
I've not touched base with some Hotel owners I know but was nagging with my mate who is a guide and this is what he said day before yesterday when I asked him how he was getting on and what if restrictions like in the Spring.
We would in this case pack the van and head for the “only “ place and country where common sense is still an acceptable view of life...
His other phrase which he used when we were naïve about conditions and after a great day we'd be nagging him asking about what was on the cards for the next day was a simple
"Wait and See"
And I think that's what we've got to do with this Covid scenario.

Apart from the use of gondolas which if not too busy can be worked around none of the other things are required, if it's no skiing or no apes it's an easy choice, of course it would be awful for the businesses involved but some might be able to offer outside service in the better weather.

We had been hoping to visit France next week, but that now seems impossible though we will look at the lockdown details when they emerge. As well as delivering some stuff to our apartment we had hoped to retrieve enough of our ski gear (boots, helmets, salopettes) to give us some flexibility in the winter if other places were more accessible.
And although we have some booked flights for January, even if France is open the best bet may well be to drive so we are flexible and self-contained.
Like everyone else here, what we really want now is something we can look forward to with a modicum of confidence.

Just been "Controled" for the first time ever. Near Sallanches having been shopping with the wife in her new (to her) car. We are still on UK plates (but on French insurance that matches our address) , so along with Attestation an ID they needed vehicle documents. Everything is correct, sow we were thanked for our time and sent on our way. Hopefully they will have a word (or more) with all the Parisians, Lyonais and others who turned up En Masse over the weekend

@under a new name, I thought the beeb had said yesterday that Macron wanted to speak to other (Italy / Austria etc) leaders to, I presume, make a consistent plan. It was only bars/restaurants that were closed to 20th, so was a bit surprised to get the call today.
We were booked from 2nd (and we were actually going on 30th December to avoid beta testing the brexit border arrangements) so I'm not hopeful.

Well Macron said 11 days ago that he would say within 10 days when the ski lifts would be able to start operating. No sign yet: there is clearly a lot of argument going on between the different Alpine countries.
I have a one week booking for self-catering apartment from the 9th January and don't know if I should cancel it. Guide booked too. The guide still has one un-booked week for this season at the start of February, so I could change to then. Need to book a car too as the 3 of us will be driving out with all our kit.
Of course we could tour in the January slot. However, I'm afraid, though I'm all for walking for an hour now and then to get to a special run or special untouched snow - many hours of walking per day, every day, doesn't appeal.
