Well, we made it back to Suffolk. Roads in UK much busier than in France (what’s new?) but everywhere incredibly quiet. Except for the massive queue for Macdonald’s drive through we passed near Chelmsford. Mind you, saw a similar but shorter one in Bonneville last week.
Absolutely zero hassle from any officials all the way from Haute Savoie to Calais. Very, very few vehicles of any type on Eurotunnel.
Only inexplicable incident - got a speed camera type flash somewhere near Dijon last night whilst pootling along at about 90kph.... paranoia wonders if this is some sort of new device to fine people for being over 100km away from home  (our van has French plates)....time will tell.

The French government said that it "regretted" the UK's decision, but said that it would impose reciprocal measures on people arriving in France from the UK.
A spokesman for France's Interior Minister told AFP on Friday: "We take note of the British government's decision and we regret it.
"France is ready to put in place a reciprocal measure as soon as the system comes into force on the British side," it added.

These figures are fairly typical of recent days 
Though have to admit to maybe suggesting to the OH that we go back, but she's content here, whereas normally it's the other way round?

@Weathercam, no way would we be back here in the UK if we didn’t have to be (small matter of having to move house)
Hopefully a two week quarantine will not be an utter disaster if you’ve got an address to go to to spend it in .....all depends on the small print.....and how it’s implemented.
Like we can drive 100s of km back to the UK but our friend was fined 130€ around the corner from his house the one time he forgot his “attestation” last month.

Much as I want to visit uk, I'm missing my daughter a lot haven't seen her since October, it will have to wait. I was hoping July would be possible, my parents come out of 14 weeks total lockdown on 1st July, that looks unlikely. I haven't got a home there now otherwise I might just do it. I think France is acting fairly tbh, happy to allow UK visitors without a period of isolation but just reciprocating UK actions, same with Spain.

Well hardly surprising that France now imposes quarantine on people arriving from UK. That’s put French trip back to a no chance after it looking a possibility in recent days
Oh well got 6-weeks until we have to cancel - anything could change.

@Boris, it was inevitable wasn't it? I've not booked anything, as we'll be going to apartment as well as the using the campervan, and can be a bit more flexible with holidays now J doesn't need a locum to cover him every time he's off. MIght think about September if the quarantine situation is resolved by then.

Off thread, but can one of you French dwellers tell me how one would ask for a beer such as a Bombardier in a French restaurant. I am doing some Zoom French lessons with my teenage nephew (in the kingdom of the blind....) and this came up.

Travelled back to UK yesterday. Arrived at tunnel within 15 minutes of ETA. quiet roads all through France.
No extra checks at the tunnel, form not needed, in fact easier than normal.

Ask for a «Pelforth Brune» - my favourite beer. They also do a «Pelforth Ambrée». Another that's worth a go might be Grimbergen Rosé - yes, a rosé lager. I had a couple after doing the tourist trek around Besançon castle in 34°C and they tasted great. Bought a pack, and had them at home and it tasted disgusting. Only goes to show the power of context.

@LaForet, ahhh, you are missing "Pelforth du Saison". Even comes in its own glasses. Of which I have only managed to steal one... Do they do an Ambrée? I've only ever seen the Brune.

Leffe do a rose too. The french add anything to lager, peche seems to me the most disgusting but it's very popular. But how can you take anyone who drinks a galopin seriously

A plug for the best independent bar outside of Paris, down the road from me in Nernier on lac Leman. Well worth a visit if in the area (between GVA and PdS).

Can't wait for it to open soon, but it's been serving draught IPA and independent brewers from all over the world for over 30years now. Way ahead of it's time, the affable Didier behind the bar still plays eclectic rock on his bar top turntable. He's not going to win any awards for outstanding service though....especially if you ask for commercial beer.

Charlotte (Easiski) taught me that word, @Claude B - I find a galopin just the thing sometimes, but then I'm a girl and rarely get more choosy than "la moins chere"!!! Thanks for the beer tips chaps - we had thought "une biere ambrée" so were on the right track.

Many years ago I went to Strasbourg for the Christmas Market and drank quite a bit of Kronenbourgs Bière de Noël that year. It was very strange, a strong lager but with the same spice flavourings as vin chaud

@pam w, when I was a language assistant in Haute Savoie in the 70’s it was common to ask for “un bock” which was a draught beer in a small glass about half “un demi”. Can’t say I’ve heard that used for a long time though. At the time I played rugby at Rumilly and after the match it was customary for each player to buy a round of “mominettes” which was a half measure of Pastis. This was often shortened to just “une momi” and if you wanted something less sharp you could ask for “une momi tomate” or just “une tomate” which is pastis with a dash of grenadine syrup added. I have no idea how widespread these expressions are. Be interested to hear if anybody else knows them

a bock is a type of bavarian beer, I guess it has come via Switzerland.
I would be very careful about using any slang terms, especially from the 1970s and indeed almost any French you pick up in the Haute-Savoie.
Your description of a Momimette is quite correct but probably hasn't been heard in the average bar since Toulouse Letrec was buying a round in the Moulin Rouge circa 1880.

One phrase I am hearing less and less is C'est la tournée du Patron!
Might be cos I'm in a resort most of the time not sure if the tradition continues in the countryside.
