Oh and also, we took the bus from Ardent to St Jean D'Aulps- which I definitely recommend. It was completely dead, pretty much nobody there, some lovely long red runs, the quality was great and the patisserie in the town was great (when waiting for the teeny navette!).

Off to the airport now, arriving in Les Gets at midnight tonight. Looks like 4 days of excellent snow to look forward to, a bit of rain on saturday morning in the village but who cares...

Looks like the snow has arrived here in Chatel, light snow for last 45 mins or so.
Outlook remains very unsettled after tomorrows mild and dry weather - with several substantial snowfalls possible from Friday onwards. There is talk of up to 50cm on Friday - but it is a bit too early to get excited!

under a new name, zzz, I'm intrigued by this "Christmas Tree" run. We regularly head along the ridge from the top of Chaux Fleurie, past the arrival point of the Plaine Dranse chair, continue past the turn off right to Rhododendrons and then hike up the ridge past some sort of weather/water station to a fine picnic spot and then enjoy the off piste down into Lindarets joining the blue run just before it turns left to join the road.
Anyone care to share a few pointers? The wonders of Google Streetview suggest a route down from the ridge arriving just uphill of the top hairpin in the road leading into the goat village. I suppose a longer hike and keeping a bit further skier's right than our usual route would lead there. We're none of us off-piste gods but we cope with whatever the usual route from the ridge has to offer. Is the next bit significantly steeper?

You know it makes sense.

No, but the forests can be dense and there are a few cliffs. You can navigate your way through the fields and end up around half way between the car park and the goat village. Then ski the powder between the switchbacks down the joux verte.

Its been snowing heavily in Les Gets for the last couple of hours and settling on the roads. Trying to snow earlier in the day when we were up on Mt Chery, we mostly skied down from the top of the Grande Ourse lift down to the bottom of the gondola as mostly in the trees. The wind was getting up and the last run up the Pointe lift was the decider to come home as the wind and horizontal snow on the top of the ridge was uncomfortable!

It has been snowing heavily in Chatel all afternoon. 11cm so far at 1200m (5 mins ago) and 15cm at 1750m on Linga an hour ago.
Still bunging it down too.

Just to echo others... Lots of snow today! Just in the Rhodos bar enjoying a fabulous burger...Haha.
We spent today between Morzine - les gets. Was lashing it down with snow at times. Up high it wasn't pleasant being peppered by snowflakes and visibility was quite poor in certain places.
My three day trip has come to an end sadly... really enjoyed this place! It's vast! Didn't even touch the surface I don't suppose, Chatel is about the furthest away I got.

MoodyFFS, I think my favourite run was probably the red down to chatel - linga maybe? Or the tree runs down from avoriaz to les lindarets were fun too.
I know that run down on the other side to les lindarets too, the first time I did it was carnage, bodies strewn across the piste that had fallen trying to negotiate the icy moguls. The bottom part was looking bare too. Not pleasant really.

MoodyFFS, But at least it is only the Parisians (the other two thirds of the country are not on holiday)
Our lads' trip last year coincided with the final week of French holidays with the same region (Paris, Versailles, Bordeaux and Cretail - wherever that is) on holiday and it was OK. Pick the quieter areas and time it right and you should have no problem.
