Apart from the ESF does anyone have any other recommendations?
On another thread the ESF did get a good write up but I just wondered if there were any other schools anyone had come across.
Thanks
PS We are not going in half term but will catch one of the French school holidays, hence why I will probably book ahead.

If you can book ahead, the Montriond ski school on Lindarets plateau have been specialising in kids for a while and some mates think they're OK.

chrisb, funnily enough my daughters had their best ski instruction of all time at Morzine (or, more accurately, Les Gets) at around the same ages as your 5-year-old.
Contact: http://www.britishskischool.com (British Alpine Ski School: BASS)
If you want personal guidance, see if you can speak to Hugh Monney who is the founder of BASS and is extremely knowledgeable. He'll doubtless be able to recommend a specific instructor and advise on the best arrangements. Have a good time!

Both my daughters have had three years worth of instruction by BASS and I would also recommend them.
If I remember correctly Hugh Monney appeared doing a instructional slot on one of those rare skiing programs put out by CH4 a few years back.

One question for BASS - and by the way there's a Morzine branch - run by the incredibly fab and talented Bex Malthouse - is how they size classes during the natives (the french I mean) vacances scolaires? I guess ESF will be hugely over-run, BASS maybe less so? I would've recommended them but have had no feedback on their kiddy teaching. My expectation is that outside the UK school hols BASS wuold be quieter...

chrisb, David Murdoch, Loads of people seem to swear by BASS , but I only had a bad experience with them - but then I'm not a 5-yr old, although I was a total beginner.
Do check their prices before booking - a second mortgage may be required.
BASS classes always seemed to be very full when I was there ( in Les Gets) last year - regardless of timing and I wasn't there in February. Their UK marketing must be excellent.
Obviously the 2 Davids know more than I but I would plump for one of the independent (French or English) schools every time.

David Murdoch, Do you know any contact details on this one?

David Goldsmith, I have sent off an enquiry to BASS. My only reservation is that my daughter, then 4 should have had lessons with BASS last season and had them booked about six months before we went. Two days before we got to Les Gets BASS rings and says that due to an instructor being injured the lessons were cancelled and money refunded, no other options. With such short notice a couple of days in ESF were the only option and some Dad tuition which in hindsight was fine, but BASS were annoying because they had no fall back position and just cancelled.

We had one private lesson with Ski 360 International in Les Gets based upon a previous snowhead's (Newbie50) recommendation ( see Les Gets Resort report)who had used them on several occasions.. The instructor we had was very good. The cost was a lot more reasonable than BASS. Not sure if they also have a base in Morzine or what they would be like with children.

chrisb, I don't I;m afraid, try the Morzine T.O., they should have a number. Not entirely sure how staffed up they'll be for bookings out of season either.

Really
Chrisb The reason I didn't recommend 360 as they are only in Les Gets ( and now Samoens). I am sure they would do Pleney for lessons , but if you don't know where I mean that is a pointless exercise and too difficult for a total beginner to access from Les Gets.

Well back from Morzine and my five year old had four two hour lessons with BASS, including one day with Becky.
The result was that on Friday we skied together down the Pleney side of the mountain (half way). At the start of the week she could do little except slide down a nursery slope and go up a magic carpet. Now she can do her "pizza" and get through crowds of French school kids down the blue and can't wait to go again next year (oh yes get on and off a chair lift as well).
I am sure there are lots of you out there that this is nothing new but I am having the proud father phase and thanks for all those who pointed me back to BASS who did a great job.
