10th to the 13th also - flying out from Luton in the afternoon so a couple of hours to kill drinking in the bar in Geneva if you like. Really looking forward to it - never been skiing this early in the year before so here's hoping for some good conditions.
AlanB1976, definitely up for a pint, see you there

I'm flying out of Heathrow there just in time for the transfer so I'll probably see you there AlanB1976. I've never been this early in the season just hope the snow appears this weekend. I am having a lesson with tdc on the Friday. How much skiing have you both done?

I would say I'm just more than a beginner with skiing, although I'm going to try my hand at boarding on the Thu so have booked a lesson with them as well. It's boarding on Thu, skiing on Fri and whatever feels the best for me on Sat

I will also be at Melezes next weekend, but I am only arriving on the evening of the 12th and staying until Friday 17th.

Yep skiing on the 13th - might stop at lunch as my mate is a big F1 fan so might watch the first hour of the grand prix before catching the transfer home.
I've had about 4/5 weeks skiing split over full weeks and odd weekends away here and there, but we are also having a lesson on Friday morning as well to brush up on technique etc.

Yes I'll be skiing on the 13th too, so hopefully catch up with you Touchguru, looking forward to getting on the snow now.
Think we are probably on the same lesson on Friday morning then reded78, I've done about 9 weeks but last season was the first time I'd skied since leaving school so sort of getting there now.
Is anyone taking any of there own equipment?

Annamillennium, I am taking all my own gear, but I know they have skis you can use at the chalet.
Have you got your own boots? If not, I am not sure that Melezes has them but there are plenty of rental places in Val Claret or Le Lac where you can hire boots from.

Touchguru, I have my own skis and boots, but was trying to decide about skis as they seem to have the same ones for demo.
Although I think I'd be happier to know I'd definitely got them for the lesson on Friday, so they'll probably end up going. Getting my boots adjusted in the morning.

I'm just taking my boots - didn't seem worthwhile going through the hassle of taking skis when they have them for free. Also - might be good to try some new bits of kit.
From memory the guys at Melezes sorted rental boots / skis etc the night of arrival so there was no faffing around in the morning.
Getting excited now - hope the snow forecasts are accurate.

Annamillennium, Have you made an appointment with someone to have your boots done ?

Yes, I hope they're accurate too reded78.
rjs, I am taking them back to Snow and Rock at the Chill Factore in the morning, to see what can be done. If not I am going to take them somewhere a bit more specialist. Why do you ask?

Annamillennium, I had misunderstood, I thought you wanted to get them done in Tignes.

Is there anywhere in Tignes that you can recommend rjs, if they're still not right?

Nevada Sports - high on the Palafour gallery will fix your boots for you - my last 2 pairs have come from there. they only sell boots.

Annamillennium, Most of the ski shops in Tignes will be closed doing shopfitting for the winter that week, there may be some people doing race boot fitting by appointment, stick to your current plan.

Pedantica, yes, although those conditions were a lot worse than I've ever had at that time of year. The fresh snow we had was very welcome of course, but not being able to ski directly to or from the chairlift was a novel experience, and the amount of ice we were dealing with was much more extensive than I've previously skied on. But even in those challenging conditions it's still possible to do lots of good work and have lots of fun along the way The fresh snow we had for the final day was lovely, although the race teams were all having a little grumble about it!

Glacier shut today with very high winds. We went up to the top of the funi to collect some kit and it was blowing a hoopoe. There was no way it could have opened today.

rob@rar, I'm hoping there is some positive in your "yet" above. A number of the weather forecasts are still predicting a good lump of snow over the next few days (I know how unreliable these can be from having read the weather outlook thread), any thoughts on what to expect from "locals" in town.

The especially entertaining bit of that was seeing spare legs nonchalantly parked between rocks! I wish I'd taken a photo.

Indeed. And they are just the sort of conditions in which it's good to have a martinet like Scott saying, 'shut up and get on with it' (or words to that effect). Left to my own devices, I'd either have whinged or not skied. As it was, I just whinged.

reded78, Sorry to pour water on your Nov 5 bonfire - but I see very little snow below 3000 m in the next 2 weeks, that said it is a very changeable picture - the rain forecast EK for next weekend a couple of days ago has vanished - (data from a professional website).
