We will just have to see, it will go two simple ways. Die on it's ass completely, or be the only ski-boot to ever buy.

interesting similarities to something Mercedes did with their diesel engines in the 70's early 80's (petrol heads correct me if i am foggy with numbers here)
Merc bullt Diesel engines that could and did go over 1,000,000 (yes 1 Million) miles, but eventually, due to their astonishing briliance in engineering, they were noticing a serious decline in the sales of cars, with people not needing to buy a successive car. This led to them dumbing down their engineering feet to something more reasonable (like 200,000 miles instead). in 1985.
.... ever wonder why you still see leate 70's and early 80's cars still being driven around the middle east and eastern europe. The Cars simply wont die.
Aside from Buckle ware/abuse (but most are replaceable these days) and tread wear on the soles of the boot, these do sound like boots that might just last an adult lifetime (remoulding/shaping)
As someone with wide feet - 100-102 last usually needed (one due to a bunion on one foot and just natual width of foot - but dispite high arches to pull it in) i have always had dificulty with my race boots and the finding/purchasinging/moulding/fitting/etc..
WC racers have very narow lasts - typically 92-95 - and with the time they spend in them, their feet -even if they would have natually been wider without skiing - are probably formed into a narrower shape (like Chinese foot binding) over many years, and so there is no need to have more that 95 last.
I very much welcome these boots to the market, and hope that they are aiming on making everything down to the 110 flex 43mm FIS compliant.

They may have discovered the arc of the covenant, unless it is simple enough for your average Joe in Snow & Rock or Ellis Brigham to operate, it probably won't sell. I'd imagine you've got to sell quite a lot of these specific boots in order to recoup the cost of the machine required.
It does seem like a very sensible and normal way to do this - I had thought about how they could fit a boot around a fixed liner, using something like fibreglass to make a mould, and then custom made boot from there. This seems like a better way of doing it, plus it clearly compresses the boot around the liner instead of packing the liner to the boot.
It might be the end of an era. That's what happens when a niche market appears and there's money to be made, others look to fill it.

Surely the process is the exact opposite of a vacuum (I know it's one of their ancient trademarks but still, a bit misleading)
SMALLZOOKEEPER, will you be looking for work if this takes off? No, you and the likes of you will be needed more than ever to spend ages fitting people up (s'cuse the use of language)

SMALLZOOKEEPER, CEM, just think of the pain you can inflict when forming the warm boot around delicate feet! You'll be able to charge extra for pain management techniques.

Bode Swiller, Totally, but Compression Fit sounds a bit like something medieval no?
We'll see, i'm happy with the idea, and there are so many variables likely to be factored in, similar to injection liners, it should be something us bootfitters can use to gauge our precision between each other. Hope it's not too expensive.
Will be interested to see what this does regarding flex indexes, as different results in resistance have some meaning as to the properties of plastic, will now bow out of this discussion, professional copyright.

Surely these boots won't eliminate the need for custom footbeds? If not, then still loads of work for boot fitters.

Well, that doesn't excuse describing a product's USP using the opposite term to what's really happening. Most Bizarre piece of branding. Perhaps Ferrari should have a prancing tortoise on the bonnet, Carlsberg will be a hit with "probably the worst lager in the world" and Dyson can start promoting cleaners guaranteed to blow ( )

Bode Swiller,
shoogly, Can't see it that cheap mate, standard race boots here are around, 5-600€ we're thinking around 600 and they'll be making a loss that we'll be paying for, or at least helping with on the tools.

I bet they are hell to put on! Even my boots aren't easy to wriggle my foot into and I know they are on the large side - anything that fits that tight, is going to require another 1/2hr in the morning just to slide your foot into

I remember (late '80s or early 90s) Molson Lager ran a print advertising campaign with the line "Don't buy Molson Lager, it's no better than other brands but more expensive". Needless to say sales went through the roof.
I know that's not quite the same but anyway...

have they stuck with their existing moulds with the abduction built in or are these on a straighter rail angle..... i see a few people each year that really benefit from the abducted stance, but many more who it feels wrong for, if this system can allow the boot to "flow" for want of a better word to a prefered abduction angle then it really is clever.
so where will these machines end up???? large multiples who can do volume in the product, smaller specialists offering high end services or a mix of both
