Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Toofy Grin absolutely and just think of the admiration of your family when you hop back into the car having put them on in a matter of minutes!

The other thing i find is no matter how tightly you fit them, they seem to loosen after a couple of hundred metres so you may have to get out and adjust.

Buying locally is probably ok if you have a Peugeot or Citroen or whatever. Anything a bit more specialised is risking it a bit. A friend of mine had an X5 on bling 20" wheels and he had real trouble getting chains to fit. (And no I am not commenting on the wisdom of driving an X5 on low profile tyres in snow!)

yes, absolutely essential to do so unless you have the kind that, in theory, adjusts itself. I have, but I always get out and check them anyway. If they're a bit loose they are much more of a problem, to themselves and to the car.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I have the Klack and Go ones and to date they have been fine - never felt the need to stop and check them.

Does one save time flying to the Alps? YES!. Must be 20 hours plus the channel minimum from Edinburgh. Or on the plane at 6.30, in Munich 11.30 in resort 1.30, on the hill 2.30.

Specialman, Along with that head torch lob in the bag something waterproof to kneel on (or pair of waterproof leggings to put on), a pair of dextrous gloves just to take the chill off the mits and a waterproof bag (strong bin liner) to stuff the chains back into when they come off wet and soggy.

I usually find it easier to use no gloves and get them on really quickly. It's also important not to be wearing your very best ski jacket, especially if the arms are a light colour.

Specialman, we have driven from rugby for the last 4 seasons. No problems. Drop me a pm if you want a detailed breakdown of costs and, times. Generally though we start early, and get a 10:00 ferry, and stop off in dijon. Nice evening meal. Then early start to be in the resort by 11. Get a toll tag if going through the night so your passenger can sleep.
