Can anyone get the Decathlon website to work? Utter cack, I can't find boots showing at all, nor any other winter sports stuff. It's too far to our nearest stores to be worth a trip if they haven't got a decent range of boots in.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Monium, yes even the new improved site is still "utter cack", you could try giving them a ring.

Their boot range isn't great from what I've seen, mostly the cheaper end. I think their cheapest ones are probably made especially for them. You also won't get any sensible advice from them on fit, etc.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

The ski boots in Decathalon was the only ski stuff they had on display so I guess it was last years stock and priced to get rid of. They were branded Technica and this was at Thurrock, They might be OK for kids and if you get a couple of weeks use out of them you might save on hire costs. But you are buying off the shelf so dont have high expections.

You'll need to Register first of course.

BergenBergen, I think even some of the branded stuff is made for them. I bought a cheap pair of Salomon's from them a few years ago, couldn't find that model sold anywhere else. After a couple of weeks of use I found they were way too big.

under a new name, I can blame them though for advising me that they were the correct size, I didn't really have a clue at that point.

I was in Decathlon near Thonon a couple of days ago and there wasn't any sign of winter sports gear

Colin B, Think all the big names do the making for the big chains thing. When I found some cheap Elan Speedwaves on ebay I couldn't find them even on the Elan website but a bit of googling showed they were a line made especially (well a standard model rebadged) for Intersport.

I think Costco have those Head gloves in permanently. That, or they can't shift 'em.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

In defence of Decathlon, Mrs Radar and I bought our boots from them and got excellent advice, they had a couple of French guys over to help out at the store, they spent a great deal of time with us. We haven't had a problem with the boots which are now entering their 5th season, probably their last. As has been said before in other discussions it does very much depend on who you get in the shop.
Mosha Marc, think your right they always seem to have them in

The Head gloves in Costco are in every winter, but they update the design each year. I think they are unique to Costco (ones you see on ebay are usually bought from there) My husband and sons have had 2 pairs in 10 years, they say they are really good and they wear well. For the price they are a good deal.

You know it makes sense.

I've seen all kinds of brands of boots sold there, Nordica, Salomon, even Atomic and others.
Question is - has anybody been to any of the stores in the South East and can advise if they've got a sensible range, or if it's just the dog ends of last season and missing sizes etc.
We have a few friends who will save that in their first week of use, and don't need high performance boots.

second vote for the Head gloves from Cost Co.
Excellent value and kept the frost bite at bay during a very very cold visit to Banff a couple of seasons ago.

Decathlon don't usually get the new winter gear in until the 1st weekend in October, so I would guess that it;s the left overs from last season.
