Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Will the Terminator terminate California's ski helmet law?

He wore one as Conan the Barbarian ...

... but he skis with a naked head. Will Arnold Schwarzenegger use his governator powers to sign off California's proposed ski helmet law, or will he kick snow in its face?

This report from SFGate

Quote:
If Schwarzenegger signs the legislation, California's helmet law would be the country's most restrictive.

It could be rather interesting if the law were passed (which I imagine it will be) and we could see if significant injuries are reduced. In New Zealand, such a law was passed for cyclists and the result was analysed (amongst others) by Dr Dorothy Robinson (go to the link Changes in Head Injury with the New Zealand Bicycle Helmet Law).

Quote:
Hansen and Suffham (1995) estimated the cost of the New Zealand helmet law for adults was more than $15 million over a 3-year period, which was considered to be the protective life of an undamaged helmet in normal use. This is a most substantial cost, for no clear benefit.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

The state Senate on Wednesday voted 21-11 to pass SB880, requiring helmets for skiers and snowboarders under 18. Violators could face fines of up to $25.

It'll go through - coz it's for kids y'see.
You can stand down your apoplectic indignation for now.

Richard_Sideways, oh, I am sure you are right. Being seen to pass law which has emotional engineering behind it is much more fun than boring stuff like securing energy supplies for the future. Same as passing the fox-hunting law here rather than sorting out how to build nuclear power stations. Lazy government.
