Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

March in Les Deux Alpes: "Cautious to Confident" gentle tuition

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
We had another terrific C2C week in March 2011 - wall to wall sun/blue sky ALL WEEK!

The date for 2012 is 10th-17th March ...

and it's never too early to enquire if you may be interested. PM me or contact easiski (www.easiski.com). We are now also on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cautious-to-Confident-Skiing/173401232708915

Who is it aimed at: Skiers of any ability, from beginner to more advanced who would like confidence-boosting instruction at a gentle pace. Lesson groupings (usually max 4 students per group) are arranged to suit those who book. British Sign Language (BSL) support is also available if required (at no charge). We really like it when friends/family come too. They can go off and ski with new friends some of the time and at others offer encouragement to us to practise outside of lessons - yes we can find it quite hard to just go off and ski!

MARCH 2011 Information

Updated 9th Nov

Following successful weeks in 2009 & 2010, we are now nearly fully booked for

C2C 2011

Having got my non-negotiable working commitments sorted for next March we've managed to set the date to be the same week as the 2010 week. The format will be similar, but as ever, details will be determined by the needs of those who book.

When:
March 19th-26th 2011

Who for:
Skiers of any ability, from beginner to advanced who would like confidence-boosting instruction at a gentle pace. Lesson groupings are arranged to suit those who book. British Sign Language (BSL) support is also available if required (at no charge).

Lessons:
A 2-hour lesson each day for 6 days with max 4 people per group. Specialist "clinics" to address specific issues, such as bumps, deeps & carving can be arranged to suit those interested.

Friends/family:
All are very welcome. We hope that those who don't require tuition will find camaraderie in skiing together and in encouraging those practising skills between lessons.

Travel & Accommodation:
Advice can be given but booking is up to the individual.

Easyjet/Ryanair fly to Grenoble from various UK airports and Easyjet now also fly Bristol-Lyon. You can take the Euro* train from London to Grenoble and change in either Lille or Paris. Cheaper tickets are available for early bookings, the cheapest option being to book each leg separately, or you can wait and book a straight through option. Cheap connecting tickets in the UK with no time restrictions are available too. Ben's Bus do transfers from Grenoble for about £45 return. There is also a good cheap local transfer bus (Satobus) to LDA from Grenoble rail station with connections from Grenoble & Lyon airports.

Easiski can recommend hotels/chalets/apartments and assist with booking where necessary. Solo skiers can be put in touch with each other if they wish to find room-mates; this has worked well before. We will have a central base at the Lutins Hotel (near the Jandri I & Express) where we'll meet at the end of each day's skiing for drinks, chat and to review any video footage. It is a very good budget option. It's B&B, but those who stayed there last year took a deal with the Il Caminetto restaurant which offered a 3-course evening meal for 15 Euros per night.

Equipment:
Good quality hire kit will be available at a discount if arranged through Easiski with SkiExtreme. Last year the cost was €100 per 6 days for mid range skis and boots for those taking lessons.

Payments:
Unless otherwise arranged, accommodation costs will be payable directly to the hotel/chalet/apartment owner. Tuition fees & lift pass costs will be payable directly to Easiski who will liaise with each person.

BOOKING
More details on www.easiski.com. If you're interested, please either post here, or send a PM to me, or a PM or email to Easiski

Butterfly, I'm glad we've finally got a date for this. I'm looking forward to it already.

I can't tell anyone any costs at the moment because I don't know the price of the liftpasses, and I don't know if I'll be able to get much discount. (Nasty rumour I heard last week is that the Compagnie des Alpes is going to raise the prices and try to freeze out all the 'little' guys - I hope that's all it is). Lessons will be €180 pp/pw as last year though. Very Happy

easiski, I hope that's only a rumour too. Have they officially taken over from the DAL?

Butterfly, Oh yes. They bought the DAL last year, nothing has changed for the moment, but rumours abound that they won't invest anything for 3 years (too busy investing in the Savoie Twisted Evil ), and that they're only interested inthe bottom line and the big businesses! If this is true then it's what we all feared if control left LDA and people concerned with LDA. It won't mean that you wouldn't be able to get liftpasses, but it might mean that I don't do enough business to get discounts. Sad I'm going to try to see the responsable to ask some direct questions.

I should make it clear that the worst case scenario is public price liftpasses for the C2C skiers. In previous years I've been able to discount the package price by passing on the (small) commission I get on passes to the students.

charlotte, think they started to do this last year with a few and I certainly had trouble getting passes for my nannies although with abit of french paperwork and a few meetings it all worked out in the end! Good Luck!

easiski, CDA immediately invested in Serre Chevalier when they took over, and are continuing to do so. I wouldn't be too worried that they will keep all of their investments in the Savoie, I am sure they need all of their ski areas to make money. Eurekaski's decision to merge with NewGen had nothing to do with lift pass discounts or lack of business.

Hells Bells, Thanks. The person I heard it from might have a bit of an axe to grind, but I don't really think so. I don't think the winter will be a huge problem except that I might lose the ability to sort passes online before peeps arrive etc. We are all more worried about summer: a return to the bad old days of having to pay for summer passes unless you worked for either the ESF or the ESI St Christophe would be seriously bad sh*t!

alexchapman, We'll see!

Butterfly, thanks for organising this again - I have been dying to join in for a couple of years but couldn't; now my family are letting me escape for a week and I am so excited Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy . I have emailed easiski and am looking at flights/trains etc. I'd like to go on the train but living in the SW it's probably more efficient (and cheaper) to fly. It will be a luxury only to have to organise myself - just can't wait. Madeye-Smiley

This hasn't been updated recently, but there are only one or two places left in each class now - with the exception of the near beginners group. Very Happy As I don't believe in taking people's money until at least a little nearer the time of their holiday, I haven't yet got 100% confirmation but it's looking very busy. Very Happy

I may tag along again next year but can't commit yet so I'm just keeping an eye on this thread for the time being. Your website suggests 5 of the 12 places have been reserved, leaving 7 still available. Is that an accurate picture of the current position?

Red Leon, Very Happy - certainly hope you will be there. I've been away working most of August (3 events & home for just a few days between them). When I got in last night hubby simply said "Who are you?"!!

I guess if we get inundated with takers we may look at spreading it over 2 weeks as we did once before.

I would definitely recommend this week to anyone looking for relaxed instruction in a small group. I thought the Lutins was great value as was the meal in the evening at Il Caminetto.

Last year the Friday afternoon after the rain in the morning and then the heavy snow was definitely my best days skiing snowHead

Sorry I can't come this year, I'll read about it on here no doubt.

Red Leon, I don't know - that is up to Charlotte. It's really good to know you may be coming!

Butterfly,

After two years (I mean weeks, of course Toofy Grin ) of being under Charlotte's wing, I feel I need to break out and try something a bit more challenging & less 'safe' but I don't know whether I dare Embarassed and the more I think about it, the less confident I feel.

I am seriously tempted by this year's Birthday Bash to Arabba but I'm struggling to convince myself I'll be able to ski with others on the trip without either having people waiting for me all the time (which I hate) or wimping out completely and spending the week essentially skiing alone (been there, done that). I don't want to waste a precious week's skiing on really gentle slopes where all I'll do is further ingrain my lack of confidence but I certainly can't afford to get stuck somewhere too steep, either.

The big advantage of going on 7BBB would be the possibility of another (short) trip later in the season - but it wouldn't be C2C Sad

So, you see, I'm still pondering. Obviously if all the C2C places go (or have gone) before I make a decision, it'll simplify the situation - but not in a good way.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Butterfly et al,

I must have found putting my predicatment down in black & white (well, blue on my screen) helpful in some way because I have now committed to the Birthday Bash. That means I'm definitely out of the running for this year's C2C so it may be an all-girlie event after all.

Assuming I don't have a major relapse whilst skiing without the threat of Charlotte shouting at me from a chairlift wink , I think we'll call that a success - she's fixed me! Toofy Grin

mustdash, From my experience, the C2C is an ideal introduction to DIY holidays. Grenoble airport is nice & small with Ben's Bus waiting right outside to whisk you to LDA and you right in the middle of town about 100m from the Lutins Hotel
