I know I've been talking about the Canadian alpine teams lacklustre performance here but last night I had a beer with Andreas Matt who got the first medal, a silver from skier cross, for the Austrian men's team. He's Mario Matt the slalom skiers brother..... He says they are getting slaughtered in the press back home and his medal doesn't really count because it's 'only' skiercross. I reckon that this event is one of the best new additions the games have ever had. Anyone else agree? (via SMS)

I agree totally - I've always thought skier cross was a far more entertaining watch than the traditional disciplines. I'm just surprised it's taken TV so long to 'discover' it.
