I'm a wee english girl heading over to Japan for a bit of an adventure - probably Hakuba for a few months. Was thinking of booking in with the Snow Season Japan lodge in Hakuba, and then trying to get some work (english speaking, as my japanese is very basic) in the resort to tide me over. Does anyone have any ideas if this will be possible - I would absolutely love to hear from anyone who has managed this!

Hi there, skiing in Japan in my experience is excellent fun; fabulous snow, Japanese skiing etiquette and J pop and noodles on the mountain top. Plus a hot onsen to soothe the limbs at the end of the day. With a glass of sake.
To do this properly you'll need a Japanese Working Holiday visa which you should be able to get for a year (for which you will need to be between 18 and 30 and prove that you have a return ticket and enough money to support yourself for the period, minimum is around USD 2000). Obviously check with the Japanese Embassy as they will have the latest and most correct info (my info may well be out of date!). Japanese is not essential, but you won't do any harm if you start to learn a bit of Nihongo to get by.
As for jobs it won't be quite as easy as rocking up to Meribel, but that is surely part of the fun! Try asking around for advice on the Snow Japan website (the Hakuba daily blog is http://www.snowjapan.com/e/daily/hakuba-now.php but they have plenty of other forums http://www.snowjapanforums.com/ubbthreads.php) or else you might see if any of the guys out in Hokkaido have any ideas on the Snowheads Niseko, Japan - Season 09/10 forum.
