Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Can £5,500 per head for a skiing holiday be justified

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Similarly to the Goggles thread - I have found a nice little chalet in Verbier from the 27th Dec that sleeps enough for the whole group (18 in total) - looks really nice but they want c £5,500 per head not including flights, transfers, lift pass or kit rental. Still it sounds nice...

"Stunning mountain retreat, perched high in the Swiss Alps in Verbier, is a perfect year-round escape. The 13 friendly and experienced staff include a General Manager, an activities co-ordinator, spa therapist, Raymond Blanc trained chef and Bam Bam - the chalet dog. Each one is dedicated to tailor-making each guest experience.... People may arrive as guests but often leave as friends. "

Is this the finest example of the Ernest Hemingway school of bull? Anyhow, £5,500 per head -I ask you..........

Dunno but a chalet staff to occupants ratio of 0.78 is pretty exceptional. I'd expect they also throw in the vino too at that price?

Let's be honest there's probably a nominal difference in service between a package holiday that costs 2 to 3 grand for a week & one that costs 5 grand for a week. Though i'm sure the difference in clientel is massive. I'm sure for some really rich people the additional cost is the reason to book one chalet over an other.

It can probably be justified if you usually earn that much in a couple of days and are used to being waited on hand and foot.

Considering that you will be skiing on the same snow as others who have paid £700 for the week, probably not!!

There's no such thing as 'earning' that much in a couple of days. Mad

You are looking at £100.00 per ski hour. You can get a top class escort for that kind of dosh. I wouldn't pay it because I know I can pay less (for skiing - not sure about the escort though), but if this was the one chance I had to go skiing for the next 10 years, I would probably be one the phone to the bank manager right now.

Not much of a deal to me - I'd want more bang for my buck - if on the other hand they want to throw in Bam-bam we could start negotiations! Wink

if you have the money and want to spend it on top class food and wine in a top class chalet with everything done for you, with 'free' ski guiding every day to find the best powder and everything sorted out for you from pick-up at the train station, ski hire etc etc then go for it.

Hmm 18 people paying £5.5k per year, sounds like one of the suggestions for the snowHeads ownd and 'staffed' chalet that was suggested a couple of seasons ago Laughing

Apropos of nothing, I had once had a Chinchilla called Bam Bam. Any chalet which includes resident pets deserves a premium price tag IMO Smile

If someone is selling something for a price and someone else wants to buy it then the price is completely justifiable Confused

Totally correct. Any material thing/product is worth what someone is willing to pay for it, therefore asking that price is justified. Paying a price for something is justified by what you will get from it less what other thing you will have to go without by paying the price (if your wealthy enough effectively nothing).

I'm sure it is just a bunch of stuff you can get cheaper banged into a rip off package.

Reminds me of he time I was in a cool club with a friend. He was chatting up this girl and telling her he was a personal travel executive. "Ohhh, whats that" she said?
"Well I organise the personal travel of people who want to go from A to B at their convenience, not dictated by time-schedules. For that they pay me a PREMIUM."

He was not amused when I said "don't listen to him, he's a taxi driver. Happy

I guarantee that everyone, no exceptions - everyone - who has ever stayed in the aforementioned chalet is a godawful smug, bragging, preening, arsehole. Like those tossarses who won the most recent series of The Restaurant. People like that.

13 'staff' to 18 guests is 1.38:1
Last catered chalet I went to was with Crystal in La Tania with 2 'staff'. Ratio 8:1. Paid £350 HB, F & T

So, take off the flight cost and I reckon, given the service, level of food and drink, plus the experience and the location, I'd struggle to justify it. And given the percentage that the Crystal holiday cost as a percentage of my net monthly income, and applying the same calculation, I'd be working in the City for an investment bank tipping my glass of Bolly to the generous tax payer....what!

Joking aside, thefatcontroller nailed it as far as I'm concerned.

bertie bassett, That's not the Swingers chalet is it?! Apparently there used to be (maybe there still is) a 'Swinger's Chalet' in Verbier, still nearly £6k is a bit steep, I'd be expecting Angelina Jolie for my swap and for them to keep my missus at that price....gumph!

The chalet sounds over-managed (is that possible?), too professionally organised and no fun at all. Expectations will be astronomical, relationships with staff almost inhuman, the 'mucking in' and fun culture non-existent and the behaviour of the 'clients' preening, self conscious and indulgent.

This is the sort of trip I'd want to avoid at all costs!!!!
