Now in anticipation of the upcoming ski season.... *ahem* i thought i would start a thread seeing what people had seen of next season's skis? Is there any particular model/manufacturer that your paticularily excited about? Or are you just going to make do with your current quiver due to the credit crunch and all that funky jazz?

Quiver??? My 'quiver' consists of a venerable but much loved pair of Missions - with graphics which will not cause me to throw up when I see them. They are in good shape; no reason to buy new.

I fancy a new pair of slalom skis at some point, and given my investment in goodness knows how many pairs of Salomon bindings I'll probably look to sticking with either Salomon or something that comes flat or with a Salomon-compatible plate. Not sure if anywhere apart from the specialists will have the race-stock versions though.

I just got new pair of race stock Fischer World cup GS skis yesterday (yeah I'm so happy I'm making somersaults around here ), and even if they are 2010 skis, it takes quite a bit time to see difference between 2010 modem and 2009 model. So at least with Fischer, they didn't go into some huge changes. But on the other side, I saw new Atomic GS skis about month ago, and they do look a lot different.

primoz, nice! I did somersaults when I got my first pair of stock 3Vs back in 2000. Taught me not to lean back at the end of the turn as much

I've heard this years Salomon Tornado is quite a bit different from last years - much stiffer i've heard. I nearly bought a pair of 09 Tornado's but went with the Neo.

primoz, I find these kind of comments bizarre regarding W/C skis (REAL ONES) as each pair are made separately then paired. Albeit it, each pair are as close a match that is possible, and there are subtle differences between every pair, they are chosen per skier, weight power, etc. The linear differences between the softest and the stiffest is quite big, so in reality, The only thing that is really W/C is the min radius and graphics, they are not W/C skis, as they are not on the feet of W/C skiers, never have (unless you are one.) They for sure are made by the race dept with all the reqired care and attention but they are the rejected pairs, either tested or not of the required flex pattern to meet anyones needs.
I'm being Anal I know, but any tech that is telling that is the only difference, is pulling your pud' or just getting rid of donkeys.
So in summary, you have a ski that was destined for the W/C but didn't make the grade, just like all of US whos ski.

SMALLZOOKEEPER, isn't the name of the Fischer race skis "WorldCup"? I don't think Primoz is claiming his are actual world cup stock skis, rather just race dept skis. Of course people can and do buy pass-me-downs from WC/WM skiers, so it is possible for a punter to ski them

You didn't understand me, or maybe I wrote so, that you understood differently what I meant (sorry English is not my native language) With "same as last year, just different paint job" I meant technology behind this years race stock Fischer skis and last year's race stock Fischer skis. Not between any specific pair of skis, and certainly not between skis on which for example Palander is skiing and these I had before, or I got now. So when I was talking with my previously mentioned friend, I was asking about technology in this years skis compared to last years skis. And from this, I wrote about "same skis with different paint job". I hope it's more clear now
Otherwise I was in skiing WC long enough that I know perfectly good, how skis are done, how selections are made, and who gets what. Therefore I don't think or imagine, I have same skis as any of top 10, 20 or 50 guys or girls have. I also know what race stock skis are, how are done and what technology and materials are used, and what non-race stock skis (of same name and design) are and what is in them, and how they feel on feet.
I don't need WC winning skis, nor was I asking for one, but after all this time I spend on skis (racing and later just skiing for fun), I just prefer feeling on race stock skis over "normal" ones. So no, my skis are not skis which were "snatched" out of this particular racer's quota (or test quota, since testing of new skis goes a bit differently then someone might imagine), but are "normal" race skis done in race department, and which for one or the other reason didn't end in that ski pool.
