Yep.
Slushy moguls, ski twisted under me and got stuck in the slush-pocket.
I went over the top.....double spiral fracture of left tibia and fibia..
Blood wagon.
Helicopter.
Sion hospital.
Operation: pin down the middle of tibia, srews galore. No cast.
Few days in hospital.
Got home yesterday.
Lots on pain still, very immobile, many weeks recovery time.
Not reccommended!
Very imreseed with Swiss care system at all stages. Nobody every mentioned money (unlike France....I heard some horror stories at the airport from fellow wheelchair injuries)

I think it depends which bone you break and how severely...
I skied for two days with a fractured fibula without knowing it. A few weeks recuperation and I was back to 100%...
If you were to snap your femur in two, now that would be a different story!

One word rungsp, AIYA! That does not sound clever.
I'm not for a second suggesting it would be a good idea to break any bone skiing but if there was a 'least worse' place to do it, it may be a ski resort. In my experience (French and Austrian) care for ski injuries was top-notch. I could not fault it in any way... Plus, they deal with similar injuries frequently and will generally know the best course of action. The only difficulty, i suppose, is getting your injured bod down the mountain.
I wish you a speedy recovery.

rungsp, that's really bad luck. Still I'm sure you will recover quickly. I had a similar double compound fracture type of break of tib and fib 20+ years ago in France and got the pin down the tibia too. Bourg St Maurice hospital were superb. When I woke up after the operation I thought they had put the bottom half of my leg on wrong as my foot was sticking out oddly. As I had never really looked at my feet before I discovered then that I walk like a duck. I don't know which was more of a shock - having the pin or discovering I waddle.
Did the swiss surgeons say whether you have to keep all the metal work or can it be removed at some stage?

rungsp, Sounds horrible. I met an 8 year old girl with a fractured leg two days ago (slushy bumps....). It was a very simple fracture and she was leaping around with one leg stuck out, grinning, and telling me it wasn't sore. Yours sounds much worse.... hope it heals without complications.

rungsp, bad luck, I'm also sofa ridden with a cast (non skiing event) for the next 2-4 weeks then a further 2-4 weeks with a "boot" on so you have my sympathy. However, every cloud.....discovered today that easyjet have released their winter timetable already for next year so I booked flights for Christmas and New year ski trip. Looking forward
