Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Geneva Airport to Tignes late transfer

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Does anyone know of a reasonably priced way to get from Geneva to Tigne after 2100? Unfortunately the last bus seems to leave at 1700. Sad

Is there no search facility on this forum or am I maybe going blind?

Restorer, welcome to snowHeads!

The search facility is top left on the drop-down menu 'User Facilities'.
As far as I know there's no way you'll catch a transfer to Tignes that late at night. It's a long journey. You could try getting part of the way - say to Albertville, Moutiers or Bourg St Maurice, but I think you'd be lucky to pull that off, too.

I think you need a cheap bed in Geneva and go for it in the morning. Hopefully someone else can pull a rabbit out of the ski hat for you.

Restorer, welcome to snowHead , I think David Goldsmith, summed it up. Maybe if you try the resort web site and get a list of honourable taxis and give them an email. You never know they may have someone coming in on the same flight. Or else risk it and do nothing until you arrive and you may see someone standing there with a board with "Tignes" and ask to share!

Good luck either way and once again welcome.

Restorer, me again. I don't suppose you're flying on a Friday, in which case your transfer the following day could be cheap (or it has even known to be free) if you can charm your way onto a tour operator's charter bus - there are so many of them doing that run from mid-morning onwards on a Saturday. It's best to do this by arrangement, though, if you want to be sure.

I am not going to book until I can get the transfe sorted but hope to be going 3 - 10 March - that's midweekand I'll be on my own. Now, I have found these people who do shared minibus transfers Geneva-Tignes in 3h10m so I could get in not long after midnight. I have gone right through the online booking to where they take your money - this includes picking your flight and hotel from a drop-down menu so there's no misunderstanding about the time I get there. I'm trying to get through to them by phone just to confirm they do work that late but it looks promising. Does anyone have any experience of this firm?

Taxi transfer will cost you a fortune. These shared services will still be prohibitive!
I'd suggest you wait until the following day and get an early train (change at Chambery) to Bourg St Maurice then bus up mountain- will cost you about £20 in total.
Alternatively hire a car at Geneva. Use one of the online brokers e.g Holiday Autos or Auto Europe and it should cost you about £120 for the week. The other advantage is that you're your own master then!

The minibus transfer is less than £50 each way. But I still need to speak to them before I book online just to confirm they will do a late transfer. As I say, their website suggests this is not a problem. Thanks for the other suggestions.

Restorer- please keep us up-dated with the Minibus transfer as it sounds like a very good option then. Does it rely on the minibus being full or having a certain number of passengers for that price?

Restorer, ww.a-t-s.net say "We operate 7 days a week 24 hours a day", and quoted me GVA to Tignes for a shared transfer circa £50 each way. They seem to be reliable.

I used a-t-s a number of years ago, when they were, I think, quite new. I tried to get the shared transfer but if they can't fill the minibus you get hit for the full amount, I paid £150 then. I think all of these services rely on you being able to fill the bus up with a good number of people. I'd love to be proved wrong though!!! Embarassed

Well, I have booked a shared transfer and had it confirmed. They took 148 euros and I don't intend to give them any more if nobody else shows up! BTW Chris they deny they ever did this! Anyway they now seem perfectly reputable and operate as part of the Easyjet website.
