Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What's this resort like for a mature coward? Any hotels etc that should be avoided? Which part of village for easy access to slopes?

sharon1953, Obertauern is a high class ski resort, it's purpose built and almost all of the hotels are ski in/out. It's also about as snowsure a resort you will find and despite only having a vertical drop of around 600m offers a suprisingly varied amount of linked ski runs. We stayed in the Peterbuhel Hotel last year and it was excellent although I don't think there is a bad hotel anywhere in the resort. Apres ski is typically Austrian, lively just of the piste between 16.00-19.00 and then everyone goes for dinner and off to bed.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

sharon1953,
Agree with up4it. Obertauern is definitely a snow sure, convenient resort. Try and stay near the lifts and you can virtually ski in/ ski out to loads of accommodation. Being in Austria, I doubt you'll get any dodgy accommodation. The place was generally very quiet although a couple of bars looked as though things could get livlely in the evenings (but I was tucked up in bed by then!). Not many Brits around and quite a few Germans in their lilac one-pieces, white 'Buzz Aldrin' ski boots and 2 metre skis! Easy 1 hour transfer from Salzburg. Have a look at the Obertauern website
