*tick*. 8 weeks for us too. We're in Cottonwood Heights though, with vans to travel around. Powder Mountain was already on the list - are the $12 cat rides worth it, Mike?

Mike Pow,
Cheers for the link to the season blog - great stuff & now can't wait!! (Though we will hold you responsible if it doesn't dump snow morning, noon & night......!!)
And thanks to everyone else for the info so far .

the "booze problem" in Utah is massively overstated. At worst, you'll have to fill out a form and pay a nominal fee to join the "club". Otherwise you just buy your beer like anywhere else - and they have very good local beers in Utah

Yes. For the skiing and for the experience.
You don't ride in the cat, you get towed behind.

You're welcome.
And it snows when I'm there

mountainaddict,
The Wasatch Brew Pub at the top of the main street in Park City for beer.
I agree with Mike Pow, about Deer Valley: because it has this reputation for providing perfect grooming for the super-rich, people overlook some of the quite challenging terrain. Also, because it tends to attract people who stick to the groomers, it means the powder lasts longer when it gets a dump.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

mountainaddict, Why are you moving between places\? They're all so close that being based in one location and driving between is no problem. Anyway.
River Street Cafe in Deer Valley excellent.
Bumps in Deer Valley generally excellent. World Cup bump slope exceptional. HP in Deer Valley gets less skied out than elsewhere.
Solitude excellent.
Chimayo in Park City is fantastic if not inexpensive.
Used to be a tremendous bagel cafe on way out of Park City.
Drinking no issue. Beer restricted to 3.7% but local brews make up for it in taste (generally very hoppy). You can of course get wine and spirits. Bars that don't sell food generally sell you memberships. Generally members can "sign in" up to 10 people so you don't all need to join. Membership typically $5 per day or $10 per week. Work it out yourself.
On mountain food restricted. And involve much carbohydrate. Locals all go for lunch at the same time so exploit that. Bartenders on mountain will only sell you as many beers as there are adults at the bar. You can't buy the round for your chums without them being present

Fave runs:
- Canyons: the ridge under Super Condor (right side of piste map) -
- Canyons: ridges & routes under Dreamscape. plenty of 'back-country-esque' routes thro trees.... the Abyss is just that... the sort of place where compass is useful.... and it's all 'inbounds'.
but then, 9090 wasn't open...
powder _is_ very dry and fluffy... fully deserves the reputation.
bars - if the barman says "are you staying at the (insert name of hotel)", reply "yes, by jove, I am".... saves all that tiresome paying of membership fees... certainly worked at the 'irish' bar at the south end of main street.
oh, and if you go to the liquor store (5 minutes up from the transit/bus station) to buy your spirits, the deli on mainstreet will sell you mixers....
enjoy
