Poster: A snowHead
|
Ingenious engineers have come up with this brilliant design that will blend with any snowy environment. Each pylon and chair is coated with reproduction ice and snow to create the camouflage effect.
The man at the foot of the pylon is obviously saying something, but our microphone was too distant to record it. Please let us know his excited comments, or any interesting technical points.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

There appear to be occupants in the 3rd chair along on the right!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Yes, they must be really pleased they're wearing thermal underwear.
The photo was actually taken in June 2002, a time when the ice caused a lot of problems on ski lifts on Mount Ruapehu, as described here.

funnily enough the Grand Vans in Flaine has had some of the pylons covered in a sort of off-white padding/tarpaulin stuff, I can't quite work out why, presumably not just to make them easier to hit when skiing in a white-out

Is that the Grand White Vans of Flaine?
We have a lot of them in London, usually driven by dangerous builders.

I had a "white van" the other week from Conforama to move some furniture around, it was a slight disappointment actually, I expected it to have a jet engine in it or at least an 8 litre, turbo charged V12 or something judging by the performance the locals seem to get from them Turns out it didn't have a "74" plate though, so I assume it's only the "74" registered vans that are performance tuned in that way.
