Poster: A snowHead

the snow has been falling fast in Tignes and we have just had one of the best pre season skiing days EVER!!! we were skiing knee deep powder on the Tignes glacier this morning, it has been snowing again this afternoon - and I can't wait to get up there again tomorrow morning.
there is more good news - the double m from the glacier is opening early this year (16th November) and the whole resort is opening earlier this year too - it's all open from SATURDAY 29th NOVEMBER 2008!!

Er,.... surely with the rider "Snow conditions permitting"???
Don't want to be a monger of doom, but the 60cm of snow that was forecast at 2100m at Tignes (ie resort level) has materialised as 8cm - which is set to disppear in torrential rain/foehn wind from the weekend onwards. Still, it is only October.

mountainaddict, it's unusual that there isn't enough snow building up, from mid November onward, to open a fair few runs in the Espace Killy by the end of the month. It's unlikely to be "all open", though.

I remember the Espace Killy kink being open on the 21st of October in Oct 1992 I was living in Chambery and it effectively rained ever day for the whole month and that fell as HUGE snow in the Tarrantaise Valley... there literally was enough snow to lasy the entire season the base was snow big. Amazing start that year. I remember goping to bed at about 11pm one night on around the 25th of October and it was clear skies. Woke up and clear blue skies, however all the cars were buried under about 50cm of snow !! Empty slopes and lots of space to play. Incredible...
