Poster: A snowHead

I wondered if anyone had any suggestions on ski helmets which are well ventilated but still low-profile / low-volume.
I currently have a Dainese Fun Helmet - which fits great, but lacks decent ventilation - meaning I get a rather damp head in anything but the coldest weather.
I really like the Sweet helmets - and they fit really well, but again ventilation looks pretty limited.
I've also tried a couple of the Giro helmets - and these seem to have the opposite problem: great ventilation - but with my oval shaped head, they make me look like a mushroom
Any thoughts?

abj, get the Sweet. When I take my helmet off I look like i've been swimming (Giro Fuse) and I don't have a problem sweating in general

Smith variant brim would be a good option (assuming it fits).

skimottaret, I did look at the POC website. I seem to remember a model with two big air intakes each side of the helmet (the 'Synapsis' model?)- which looked promising.
Problem is, that POC gear seems tricky to get hold of.

abj, i shoulda seen that comin
helmet threads aint the fun they used to be though, time was a comment like mine would have invoked a merciless wrath from dozens of indignant dafties.......happy days!
at the risk of exposing my brinksmanship (one at a time girls please...), I wear a Giro G10 after having spent a bomb on a sweet helmet only for it not to fit proper (damn internet). Find Giro fine for vents, though have discarded it on the hottest of spring days. It also does give me a slight mushroom appearance but don't they all

Sweet trooper half-cut = sweat and lots of it. You can impress you ski buddies at lunch by pouring it out on the table!! only problem then is it tends to freeze, if you leave it off, and putting it back on is not a lot of fun

Mosha Marc, yup, but don't got all the spare fitpads though so that could be a problem, but if interested give me a PM. It's the sweet rooster model in black/carbon at size L/XL

Anyone tried the Giro 'G10 MX' (the one with the visor)?
I've been admiring it in the new Snow & Rock catalogue - but haven't found one to try it on yet.

abj, they look good, but bear in mind you wont be able to rest your goggles on your helmet, (if you wear goggles) which I imagine could get fairly annoying.

gregor the viking, good point. Although, I tend to let my goggles hang from the back of my helmet (if I rest them up on my helmet they tend to steam-up) ... so shouldn't be a big problem.
It's a real shame about the complete lack of ventilation on the Sweet helmets - 'cos they look great. You'd have thought they would have stuck a few holes in 'em - but I guess on a helmet that thin, it would comprimise the strength (?)

that's the one i have, but have removed visor (peak?) - it's removeable, due to the goggle thing Gregor mentioned. it's the sme as the regular G10 in every other respect

lots of helmets that are FIS compliant for racing are not allowed vents, could be that...

Gotta be careful with the shape of your head. Had a Sweet Trooper and after wearing for half a day it cut the blood supply off to the top of my head and gave me a splitting headache...despite "fitting" at the shop. Not very adjustable either and pricey. Bought a Giro Fuse the next day and suits me fine

Okay, looking around the web, the best looking lids seem (to me) to be the Giro MX 10 and the Smith Variant Brim - so I might go and try these out.
'Bern' helmets also caught my eye - but does anyone know of a London stockist? Seem to be plenty of internet stores that sell them, but I'd like to try them on first.

have you tried the Giro G10 out of the Giro helmets you have tried? And the Smith Variant Brim is the one I would get if I could do it all over again personally.

Evergreen, I went to a couple fo shops over the weekend and tried a load of helmets. Tried a Giro 10, but they really don't suit my head shape.
Neither S&R or Ellis Brigham had the Smith Variant Brim in stock - so couldn't try that one. And I don't think I'm brave enough to buy one on-line unless I've actually tried one.
Shame, because they do look nice.

Tried one on at Ellis Brigham and it is very light and comfortable.
So much so I am awaiting delivery of matt grey one soon.

I can only speak for POC and Giro, but these manufacturers in particular make different head shape lasts across their ranges, so where a Giro G10 might not fit a Fuse might, same with POC. Don't just try one helmet on and rule out that make as not fitting.
