...because I decided to lose it about 3 days after the buying it
It's a G3 shovel but I don't think you can get them in the UK. Does anyone know where I can get a spare G3 shovel handle or any other for that matter ~30mm diameter.

Another victim of having it strapped to the outside of your pack?
Sorry, not being mean but I rant about it a lot on here. 1) It makes you look like an idiot. 2) You'll lose it. Saw one today at a drag lift...

parlor, agreed. I don't know why Da Kine in particular put straps on the outside for a shovel handle. Also looks a great way of impaling the pointy end of the handle in the back of one's neck given the right kind of fall.

Thinking laterally, instead of a spare shovel handle have you tried 4 candles?

The Dakine carry system for handles makes it pretty hard to lose, and it's pretty inconvenient to try and get a shovel handle in a 20l day pack without hassle... Guess I look like an idiot anyway

Rather like the Black Diamond idea of a separate compartment for the avvy stuff. Sharkymark, have you tried contacting the manufacturers of the shovel? Worth a shot in my experience.

Of the two friends that have lost handles both have been from Dakine packs. Don't do it. You look like a wanna be and you will lose it.
I have an 18L Salomon pack that the handle goes in no problem.
Most of the time I try to put my ice axe(s) inside my 30L pack 'cause it looks so try hard to have them on the outside.

I've seen that.
I think it's supposed to make you look like you're building pirate hits, not like you're ready for rescue.

parlor, Bang on .I have a really big shovel handle and it fits inside the Da Kine pack outer pocket with probe and shovel and tons of stuff. No need to use the straps.

You know it makes sense.

Sharkymark,
I probably know the pack you mean, and you will not lose the blade from there. I tie the probe and shovel handle on anyway..as you will now, of course.
In a 20ltr pack with no compartments, it could be getting a bit crowded in there so see no reason not to pack outside. Of course, losing kit should be a top priority anyway, so you'll legislate for this...??????

JT, looks like it. Although having said that, I'll probably have to buy a bigger bag so I can get the shovel etc inside without looking like a tw*t. Then I can laugh at all of the other "idiots" on the hill. Fantastic. Can someone please answer the bloody question!

Mountain Spirit have a G3 handle extension advertised for £12 here. If they can't supply the whole replacement handle, you could probably make a replacement using this,

Sharkymark, ... try Mountainspirit Aviemore. They stock G3 shovels and may be able to help ..... otherwise you may find it cheaper to just get a new one ....
