Poster: A snowHead
|
On my recent coaching course our trainer used a wonder tool for preparing edges – I think it’s called an SKS Race Cutting Tool (or something similar). Basically a really sharp blade that takes the edge off. I want one, I need one – anyone know where can I get one?!
And before people start telling me these take off loads off the edge and will reduce the life of my skis – I know, but I don’t care cos I’m not tuning them THAT often, and I’m also a weak and feeble girl so need all the help I can get…

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Did it look like this?
Spyderjon retails SKS kit I believe - send him a PM and ask.

Blade?
Did it just take off burrs? If it did then Jon does retail them.
P.S. Don't "have a go" with it after a few beers or you end up with grooves down the base parallel to the edge.
Or so I'm told.

Mosha Marc, no it took off the edge in same way a file does - only a lot more aggressively!

beanie1, there's a number of tools on the market that would fit your description & some are crap, some ok & some brill - & all cost about the same. I'm in the 3V at the moment but can sort you out next week if you can hang on for a few days.

spyderjon, awesome, thanks! The one Ross used was brilliant, the edges were super sharp within a few strokes, then needed smoothing off with a file.

Why is that kind of tool better than a standard file and edge guide?

It's/they're not.
Most of those types of tools are poor in comparison to the standard basic kit of a fixed angle guide, alu-ox stone, metal file, diamond file & gummi stone - all of which don't cost any more.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

rob@rar, my edges were really blunt and it sharpened them in no time at all.
