No-one is more pleased than the weatherHead to be able to report that the much needed snow has arrived across the Alps yesterday, as he was beginning to run out of different ways to describe slopes 'holding up well' and 'the best skiing being on the upper slopes'. Fortunately this looks set to change, and not before time, with lower elevations having become decidedly slushy after the combination of warm temperatures and negligible precipitation for most of last month. The weather forecast for the next week is much more promising with freezing levels dropping and the possibility of more snow later this week... Once again it looks as though those snowHeads lucky enough to be going to the MSB should be able to enjoy superb conditions.
Some of the French resorts have done better than others Serre Chevalier seems to have caught very little of the new snow so far, although more is predicted later in the week. Les Deux Alpes has had enough to produce some fresh tracks, and is snowing at the moment according to our resident snowHead. In Tignes some powder was able to be found in places if you knew where to look. Avoriaz has also had a fair amount of new snow, with more on the way all the way down to resort level. Unfortunately Montalbert La Plagne hasn't done so well, only getting a few flakes so far, although again the forecast for later in the week is good. Meanwhile The 3 Valleys are much refreshed, and it continues to snow this evening. Montgenevre was still skiing well at the end of last week, and has also had a good amount of fresh snow. Chamonix had benefited from fresh snow earlier this week as well, leading to good skiing both on and off the piste. Les Carroz is showing new snow at resort level on the webcams.
In Austria there has been heavy snow, leading to good skiing in poor visibility at Mayrhofen. Engelberg was 'not bad' last week, and should benefit from the new snow forecast for this week. Obertauern also had good cover last week. Schladming has the best conditions for a month.
Expect to hear plenty of news from Switzerland in the coming week or two, specifically from Wengen where the forecast is for plenty of snow, much to the pleasure of seventy assorted snowHeads. It has been very warm in Verbier last week, meaning slush conditions, however thankfully today the temperature has dropped and it's snowing! The forecast for Laax is also looking excellent.
Elsewhere in Europe it's snowing in The Pyrenees, and Bulgaria, and Scotland continues to enjoy it's excellent season.
In North America both Whistler and Fernie have had nice amounts of new snow to refresh conditions. Sunshine Village and Heavenly are also skiing very well.
Discussion as to what the future may hold continues here.
As always thanks to all those who've contributed pictures and snow reports, we couldn't do it without you. Any queries or corrections please feel free to start a thread in Snow Reports or PM the weatherHead.

FYI, according to reports yesterday and today saw stunning powder conditions in the west of Scotland at Glencoe and Nevis range with reports of waist deep powder skiing under sunny skies with no wind - best day of the season according to a number of reports on Winterhighland - take a look over there for many stunning photos of the day too.
Alps eat yer heart out!
