Im glad someone is taking some action.
In the summer it is horrible seeing so many ciggarette butts under the lifts in such a beautiful environment.
I hope some European resorts follow this.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Great news, I hate seeing people smoking and littering in the mountains. Pack out what you pack in, and no problems, but even then on a chairlift it can annoy other people on chairs behind you. Go smoke somewhere out of the way, and pack out the bud.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I'm ...
1. Surprised it wasn't banned already
and
2. Surprised there was even a need for a formal ban
I've never skied Heavenly, but I've never seen anyone smoking on the lifts in the US and Canada. I found it really quite surprising when I saw people doing it in Europe, and was particularly annoyed when I ended up being 'downstream' from these people.
Surely a strict policy on littering would amount to an effective stop on this. If a formal smoking ban is too controversial, how about a €500 fine for littering off the lift (and actually enforce it, which seems to be the key to nearly every policy of this sort). I always pick up litter when I see it on the slopes, although I wouldn't pick up cig butts.
