Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

click to enlargeSo you guys - anyone get out there and do some skiing? Over here it melted pretty quickly yesterday afternoon in Bourg, although it's well below freezing today. Just about enough snow left to try a bit of free skiing in the 'garden'... down the 35° slope at the back, round the heap of stone for the unbuilt garden shelter, over the wall...... helmets compulsory...

Well I did have one go but have to admit I didn't get that far, meeting an undignified end at the pile of rock. Tree skiing in an inch of frozen snow down a very steep slope, I discovered, is beyond me. No, that's Timothy.

I met some guys who skied in Somerset in 1998 - they had a farmer with 4x4 take them back up to the top of the hill and the local telly turned out to film them.

I also have some friends who reguarly ski tour around Newcastle in the winter when they get the chance.

If we'd have had another 1" or 2" I'd have got the skis out. We still have a layer of ice, but not enough to turn on!

Unfortunately I haven't bought any nordic kit yet (though I'm planning to) and my alpine touring kit is a bit heavy weight for forest skiing. Not even sure there is enough snow on the forest tracks yet.

There were some lads snowboarding on the hills near us today, just up and down a couple of fields that kids were sledging on.

It hasn't snowed in Bath yet, which is a shame because we've got some super hills. If it does tonight I'm walking up the hill behind our house tomorrow morning, but I don't think it's likely.

But a spokeswoman at the BBC Weather Centre said .... "Saturday is the last of the winter weather before it turns spring-like. The weather will be warm for the foreseeable future," she said.

Sunday marks the start of a spring-like warm spell, with temperatures up to 13C (55F), BBC weather staff say.

I went out on Friday and did a bit of skiing sadly it was only on the local plastic slope, all we saw here were a few flakes of the white stuff amongst the rain Sad

There was certainly enough to do some skiing in Scotland yesterday, and indeed we saw some people carrying skis up Ben Wyvis.

Took my daughter (three years old) out in the garden on the kiddy plastic skis that I got her last winter. She was happy walking around and falling over after sliding down the miniscule slopes in my garder (e.g. lawn to veggie patch!). She kept falling over, getting in a tangle with her skis and saying "Oh! Not again". She'll be a natural! snowHead

highlander, those are the best shots of Ben Wyvis I've ever seen. A real pleasure!

For those who don't know the mountain, it's local to Dingwall and Strathpeffer - about 18 miles NW of Inverness. There's been local lobbying for it to become a mechanised ski mountain, going back 30 years or more, but it was generally thought to be too far north to attract sufficient trade.

highlander, they are wonderful photos, it's great to see the white stuff again and since I am off to Malaysia and Australia in the coming weeks I won't be seeing much snow for a while!

The ski tow on Raise in the Lake District Fells ran for the first time this season on Friday although conditions were described as marginal. Unfortunately there wasn't quite enough snow at Yad Moss.

On Sunday mild air sweeping across Britain wiped all the snow out from the Lakeland Fells..

I flew down from Newcastle to Southampton on Saturday. The Pennines and the North York moors looked as though they had a pretty reasonable dump. Couldn't see any piste-bashers out though!

Lorraine, It was pretty good cover in places, I was on my MTB on the South Pennines on Sunday. Fair bit of snow, but loads of ice so plenty of handling skills training going on Smile .

It warmed up in the evening though and it's just about gone now Sad
