Poster: A snowHead
|
Can anyone recommend a good mountain guiding company or off-piste tuition / course in Sunshine Village, Banff? Some avalanche training would also be a bonus. Lake Louise would also be a possibility.
Weighing this up against a heli-drop day - looks great and includes safety training and three drops, but its a couple of hours drive from Banff and costs almost £350 for the day??!?!
Thanks in advance,
BrightonSki

Yamnuska have been highly recommended to me but might not be exactly what you are looking for

I assume the heli option is RK Heli at Panorama which people seem to rate as an intro to heli skiing.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

We're currently weighing up heliskiing with Purcell (see link) against getting a guide for a couple of days and heading for the Sunshine Village / Lake Louise backbowls (much cheaper).

Hadn't come across RK Heli, will also check them out.

BrightonSki,
You won't be able to find a heliski operation closer than a couple of hours drive from Banff, because heliskiing is banned in the Banff national park.
RK have an office in Banff, though. Purcell runs out of Golden, if I remember correctly.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I think we're going to go for a day or two's private lesson / guiding with Sunshine Village ski school. Has anyone used them before?

BrightonSki, If you have never skied off piste the back bowls of louise are a great place to start you don't need a guide, as there are some great unpisted blue runs to start on.
