Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What are your views/experiences in deliberately providing room in the boot for some foot (pronation) movement?

I'm referring to things such as a navicular punch, or some medial ankle room to allow the foot/ankle to roll to the inside, inside the ski boot.

I don't expect many of your recreational skiers have asked for this, but have you done this for any of your high performance clients?

veeeight, A certain Mr BM once asked me to do just this as he likes to be able to roll his foot inwards at the start of the turn. If you can accurately judge the amount of movement required, I feel this to be a potentially beneficial solution

I'm playing with this in my own boots at the moment, I'm just seriously in the next few days about to get a navicular punch, as I feel locked up in my ankles currently.

Good to know that it's been asked for before.

Oh. and have any of you guys got any info on the 07/08 Head Raptor? There are a few whispers around that say the shell is too thick to heat and punch, you should just grind?

veeeight, raptor Toofy Grin Toofy Grin Toofy Grin very nice, depends on which model, the RD version has the thicker shell the RS 120 is a bit thinner, i guess it all depends on how far you need to move the plastic..... never had a problem stretching full on race boots before, but grinding is a solution used in these boots more than in a recreational boot, i am sure LZK is the man to give you the definative answer Little Angel

veeeight, With this kind of boot, Poly Ether W/C boots, i have the client ski it from the box. No footbed, liner moulding or grinds. I wan't the client to feel the progress, so as at any given time they may ask for more work at the right level/area. Next process is grinding and shaping the boot, allowing for the pronation(Navicular/1st Metz/ Medial Malioli), and any other worries. Now we mould the liner, if we can and finally, the footbed. This may seem backwards, but it helps me build a clearer image of what is needed and enables the client to understand what my hands are capable of. This has proved to me to be the most sucessful route. So to answer your question, yes i allow for it, no matter how strong the orthotic pronation will occur under such forces so grind it!

Dear LZK, SZK and CEM

I have a very high opinion of myself and don't suppose anyone has ever asked this question - especially not the likes of megamum and those lesser skiers but have you ever considered doing a fairly basic stretch on a pair of boots before?
