I think this may be of interest to people.
I spotted "Waxing and Care of Skis and Snowboards, Michael Brady;Paperback; £5.85" on Amazon recently and added it to our regular order.
It's arrived now and it's really very good, the best advice on the subject I've ever seen in fact. The content is really excellent, the only negative I'd observe is the bizare order of chapters which seem near random, ie chapter one, wax, then base preperation later and returning to wax again for a bit.
Still, well worth the money, it's not actually published in the UK but Amazon UK get it for that price in a week or so.
I'd recommend it, even if you don't service your own skis just for the discussion on bases and the technology,

How detailed is it ise ? size ? no of pages etc ? it sounds like a reasonable price but I'd be interested to know how it compares to the free info available from the likes of toko etc .

Sorry, like I said "the best advice on the subject I've ever seen", so assume I've seen all the Toko, Swixx, Tognar stuff. It's around 120 pages, diagrams, photos etc. The Toko Wax manual is only really glorified sales literature, it's really superficial covering only some basic waxing that most people could guess anyway.

Thanks ise, but I also have a friend who works for the uk's largest book supplier, they actually have something like £700,000 of spare stock listed on amazon so I may try him first

As far as I know it's not published in the UK though, it's one of the titles Amazon import. Still worth trying if you know someone in the trade of course.
I've just finished reading it in fact, I still would recommend it but the chapter ordering is just bizzare. There's barely any structure to the content at all. Not as comprehensive as I'd like but a useful little book all the same.

sorry ise maybe I should have said distributor rather than supplier, theyt get in thousands of books from all over the world every week, primarily ref books rather than novels which they then send out to book shops up and down the country

not recently, somewher here I do have an old book on the subject from the late '50's or early '60's but I don't think it would be very relavent to todays skis, however I shall have a look arround and see what else I can come up with.
Only one I have found on the net that looks interesting is
World Class ski and snowboard tuning : by Michael Howden 107 pages
I do note that Toko have a CD intsruction device that includes video clips which might be good

Just thought I'd thank ise, for his book reccomendation, I asked my friend in the book distributors if he could order a copy for me, he said he'd see about it, next thing I know I get it as a late birthday pressie from him  It is indeed very informative although I'd say that it may not be bet suited to a complete beginner, I'd suggest the TOKO website downloads for complete beginners then this book as you start to get into ski maintaince
