Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Snowboarding Everest

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I came accross a short article the other day about Marco Siffredi and his descent of Everest, so thought I'd look into it in a bit more detail. The link here is a more detailed account about the young man whose life was ultimately claimed by the mountain.

Quote:
Many have criticised Marco because he was on a commercial expedition, because he used oxygen, because he did not carry his snowboard all the way.....but that was not his aim. Marco's aim was to snowboard down Everest, and this he did. For those who want to criticise, you do better first !!

The original article that caught my attention failed to mention that the chap died which is poor IMHO - especially as the event was used to promote a brand of Vodka! Still, there you go I suppose....

Crikey, Russell Brice who wrote the piece, is a fairly accomplished guy. Anyone heard of/met him?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Was the first article talking about Marco's first successful attempt perhaps?

Marco seemed to be someone of contrasts.

He seriously pissed off some local guides and had a pretty arrogant attitude when he got back from his first Everest trip and didn't hesitate to remind guides that he was the first Chamoniard to climb Everest.

At the same time he was not really tied up in the commercial world of sponsorship etc. just earning enough money for the next ride or adventure.

Oh and he didn't like Brits buying up his valley :-).

RIP Marco.

davidof, yes the article used did refer to his first attempt. Even though, I still reckon it pretty shabby, making use of an extreme sportsman (there are other snow related sports in the ad) to promote the coolness of drinking a premium vodka brand when the guy died doing a similar thing a year later.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Stephen Koch and Jimmy Chin wrote a blow by blow account of their attempt last year which is worth reading. They did not make the summit but did get to ride the Japanese Couloir.
