Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Replacing skins

How often do you replace skins? My pair are becoming a bit worn on the sides with a very minor tear, they still hold their grip quite well for the moment. Reckon I've done 4 seasons in them averaging 40 touring a year.

They are a pair of Dynastar/Pomoca skins for Mythic 97 which seems to be a discountinued pair of skins so not easy to replace like for like.

Debating whether applying new glue and waxing the hairs or whether to replace completely... and if so replace with a pair of universal skins cut to size?

skins are a consumable, you've paid about 1 euro per ski tour, I'd say that's good value. Get new skins, regluing etc works but is a faff and never brings the skins back to what they were - a bit like a facelift on beautiful woman

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Agree with the above, local Decathlon here in Briancon is doing some very good deals on Colmar/Coltex ? skins at the moment that must be old stock, almost tempted to buy as a back-up.

Another vote for just buy new ones. Tried the reconditioning route once, never bothered again.

I once bought one of those soldering iron things for scraping off old glue. Never used the thing!! Just not worth the faff. Reminds me I should probably sell it...
