Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Festive Skiing

I am looking to do a ski trip over the festive period and interested to hear people's opinions on how reliable the snow is in places like La Plagne/Les Arcs at that time of year? Thanks Smile

Outside Half Term weeks Christmas and New Years are two of the most important weeks for ski resorts - as there's a lot of overlap between the "old enough to be earning ski holiday money", "have school aged children" and "annual leave has to be family time" circles on the "who skis?" venn diagram. As a result if at all possible, come hell or high water all significant resorts will have snow. Will that snow be man made, trucked in from higher up, or 18m or fresh powder...one of them, yes. Also most resorts will already have expected to be fully open for a couple of weeks by Christmas, so not like you're booking opening week.

Both La Plagne and Les Arcs are at a decent altitude for the western Alps so should be fine.

@br0wn1, I've skied Christmas week in Arc 1600 almost every year for the last 20 years and yes we have had snow: some excellent, some average, some poor. We've had powder and wind that blew it all away, we've had rain, wev'e had it hot (sitting outside in T shirts on Christmas day) and cold (my nepthew got frost bite on his toes New Year week), but we've always skied. And always thought it much better than being in the UK at Christmas, even when it rained last year.
