Skibandit - I love the combination of Chambery and Crystal, it's always worked for us. It could be because we have used the Manchester Excel flight which arrived about 11am and left 8pm, hence avoiding the worst queues on the roads, it could be that we've gone at Easter or Christmas and the road traffic was more spread out, it could easily be that we had a smoother trip that you have had, but it may not be, it could be that we we have a different attitude.
Travelling is part of the holiday, it takes time, we're not individuals travelling alone, but part of a much wider group. We had a 45 minute stop at Moutiers each way one year, but Moutiers is an interesting place to stop. There's a good choice of coffee outlets, trains to watch, views to take in. We were told it would be 15 minutes, but the bus from Valmorel was late. We could have complained, but we didn't want to spoil it for ourselves, we just enjoyed it.
The next time we left really early becuase of the traffic, but there wasn't any, so we had 4 hours at Chambery. It's got a wonderful bar, open air with a view of the runway. It is close to planes when they turn, paper plates and plastic cups fly really well in the slipstream!
Next time you want to complain try a few things first
1. Relax, look at the view
2. Look for the coffee shop / bar
3. Walk around outside, enjoy the mountain air
4. Use the time constructively, design the new patio, write postcards, get on with your knitting
5. Think - this is my holiday, will complaining make me enjoy it any more or feel any better in the end?
6. Remember - the 19yr old you are complaining about is someone else's child, how would you feel if other people treated your child in this way?
7. Write down your complaint, review it, enjoy getting angry then throw it away
8. Curse about bl***y cheerful people who insist that delays and spanners in works can be enjoyable

provenjohn, From Zurich I think you can access most of the Swiss resorts - I did wonder whether Flims would be within a reasonable distance. There are buses to Lech / St.Anton etc. that take a couple of hours from Zurich (Arlberg express). This is as far as I've got! I'm looking for a holiday for 2007 Feb half term, as I've promised to take my niece and nephew (17 and 14).

One of the best TO hol we had was with Crystal to BKK. We (6) got on the coach, the rep got in behind us, the doors closed and off we went. We were the only people she had for that week in the resort! She was really helpful, could'nt do enough for us even collected the kids from ski school for us to give us a bit more time skiing on our own (and I think to give her something to do).

Had an horrendous holiday with Crystal as a late 'superdeal'.
Transfr was OK, until we got to the 'drop off point' where the rep turned us over to the local taxi company and loaded up all our bags with a cheerful ' he knows where to take you!' whereupon we embarked on a 2 hour tour of the outskirts of the town trying to find 3 places - one of which turned out to be the 'hostel' where we were dropped off by the original coach.
They put us up in the wrong class of accommodation , although when I presented them with the 2 year out of date tub of jam we had been served up at breakfast by the 83 year old Pension owner, they quickly changed their story and found us a great traditional Austrian hotel in Finkenberg. However, the resort 'manager' (overinflated title if I ever saw one) never let us forget what a 'favour' he had done for us and how happy another party were to get the room we vacated....... all I can say is their initial Pension must have been closely related to a cow shed!
Thank heavens for the Crystal cusomter service practice of calling you from the resort before you leave the UK 'just to see if there's anything you need or want to know' (read - is there anything I can flog you now?' - a ski rep's mobile number has never been so over used!

For interest i looked at a Thomson Booking for Easter 2007. They are showing a £15 pp fuel surcharge already. How do they know that the price of fuel will go up over the next 12 months.

We travelled with Crystal to Passe Tonale 2 weeks a go, we also got a call from the rep in the resort a week or so before..I was surprised or even shocked ! Especially as this was our 4th crystal holiday this season and the 1st call we had received. I never thought she ws trying to sell me anything at all. I did say to her I was pleasantly surprised and she said it was a 'new' thing they do if you have booked direct rather than via a travel agent, I think its a great idea. Hopefully you can get a true idea of conditions rather than the dubious snow reports I've read on the web.
Cheers Shane.

no complaints about my crystal holiday to courchevel. horiffically early flights but did mean 6.5 days skiing. Apartments 50 yards from piste. P&V apartments not stunning, a little small but we paid £260 for Courchevel 1850 and booked several months ago. we got a grenoble offer discounting by £250. We got exactly what we expected.
Conversely a colleague had deal -accomodation allocated on arrival -to sesitiere and walked into hotel with mother and walked straight out it was that bad- ware accomodation allocated on arrival.

Just back from a week with Crystal in Val Cenis. No complaints whatsoever although as Deb couldn't make it due to a back injury I skied a lot with srobbo & his Snowcoach crowd. The total package that they had was far superior to Crystal for about the same money.

We went with Crystal this year and evrything went pretty well. Stayed in Morzine at Le Viking and had a really good time. The two kids had good fun and made lots of friends etc.
Yes the transfer was slower than a private transfer but the cost of the holiday was a big difference. This year it cost us £1800, while last year with a small compaby and private transfers cost £2400 for poorer accomodation.
I suppose you get what you pay for, or maybe we were just lucky with the transfer arrangements?

We flew into Innsbruck from Leeds Bradford on Christmas Eve with Crystal. Sat on the bus for 90mins while we waited for......NOBODY
The Thomson rep who escorted us to St Anton LIED about the optional lift pass insurance - said if we didn't pay it we'd be liable for the whole cost of a new one should it be lost. This turned out to be b******s. If you note down the pass number you can cancel it and get a new one for a nominal fee.
Like one of Ted's scams on Hi-de-hi.
DIY for us next Winter.

Our Thomson and Crystal reps in Zell am See where very good, they did inform the costumers about writing the number down and even provided the paperwork and pen for this purpose. Our reps were generally very good and I have absolutely no complaints.

just got back from L2A after a week with crystal at la brunerie
room a bit on the small side for 2 of us plus 15 month old but not the end of the world. absolutely no complaints re: staff and food. bambina in the nursery - the staff were really good and looked after her well.
so would not rule them out in the future
not that we bothered with it but only 2 days ski hosting on offer - 2nd of which was on the Thursday - bit strange considering skiing for most is Sun - Fri?

Relatives just got back from a last minute booking ski holiday with Crystal in La Plagne. Chalet staffed by chalet boys who didn't know how to cook, and chalet dirty. The chalet boys had had no training. Supplement paid for 4 star chalet so they will ask for this back
