Haha good to see all your snow reporters coming to Verbier!!!
Enjoyed the stories from both your guests. I’ve also not yet made it to the Dolomites in Winter. But I’ve heard there are some fantastic couloirs accessible ski mountaineering. If I ever get it organized sounds like meme should keep you a spot!
And fond memories of the Ski coach from Leeds Uni to Val d’Isere and having to relieve ourselves in bottles after the toilet broke down
Great episode. I find it strange to consider going somewhere you can only ski on piste. One day I/we ought to go though I guess - everybody talks of it's magnificence.
Being 6'4" the idea of coach travel doesn't feel attractive but I do like the idea. Also liked the concept of non-standard holidays or whatever phrase the weekender guy used.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

The Dolomites’ reputation for being light on snow probably deters keen freeriders from planning trips to the region. But for those that do go, the excellent book, “Freeriding in the Dolomites” (3rd edition), could be a good purchase. It includes detailed notes for 175 itineraries in the central-eastern Dolomites, including Marmolada – Arabba – Colac – Sassolungo – Sella – Alta Badia – Lagazuoi – Cinque Torri – Tofane – Faloria – Cristallo.
And even if you’re unlucky with off-piste snow conditions, the first-rate piste skiing and artificial snow-making, stunning scenery, and delicious food on and off the mountain will ensure you have a great trip nonetheless.

I thought that too. I have to admit as they were staying in refuges, I had assumed it was all off-piste - sounds like refuges are very different in Italy.

@iainm, loved that one. Well done all. You don't get quality chat regarding coach chassis lengths, and the best Italian rifugios anywhere else!

No laughing, there was a Maserati in a box parked outside mine last time... At something like 2600m!
Amazing story and seriously impressive effort. Did I hear correctly it now works off piste! Who’s got a Carv for me to try

I'm going to try that off-piste option this winter - very hard to see how it's going to work as I can't see how it can know what sort of snow you're on.
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Just dropped another episode BTW - this time with my special guest Al Morgan, discussing his pick of the best new skis:
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Underfoot pressure very different on a hard piste versus in fresh powder. Agree with you all the stuff in between will be very difficult as tracked out stuff, moguls, slush could be on or off piste. They must have a ton of valuable data to exploit though!
You know it makes sense.

I guess you'd have to select snow type in the app per run or something like that after the fact?
Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:

Great interview with Lou about the Dolomites. She certainly knows her stuff and some great information there. Thanks !

Thanks Peter. Still can't believe I've never been to the Dolomites. Much more achievable for me than some of the other bucket list ideas that keep crossing my path.
Episode 194 is now live - Heliskiing in Chile & Innsbruck in Austria...
So many podcasts, so little time...I've published another four since my last update. An update on the best ski boots for this winter; a special on the snow train and Les Arcs; a 'best ski jacket' episode and finally, to finish off the year, a ski report special (including one from Snowhead @BobinCH
@iainm, just listened to the helmet one, I also have an ancient helmet of similar vintage to yours that I decided to retire! Do you happen to know if old helmets can have the plastic recycled at all vs throwing them into landfill?
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

That's a really good question (and I am also now in the market for a new helmet after that shocking confession). Let me ask Al about that and we'll cover in the next kit episode.
This is the Best Helmets and Goggles episode for those who missed it:

@iainm, the one with Dave Ryding had really weird audio, it was cutting out words from both you and him.

@kitenski, I listened to that the other day - I don't recall such issues, maybe it was the network/device you were streaming on?

@Layne, hmm interesting ,it was on apple podcasts apps and it was downloaded so wasn't streaming.

I noticed the issue too, but if you listen to #200 apparently there was an early cut of #199 where there was an audio issue due to editing software - the first part lost about 45s or so of choppy audio - it was fixed and reuploaded, but if you got the early cut, then you got the audio problem.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

@Richard_Sideways, cheers, sounds like that explains it - I was streaming for sure

Spot on. It was my fault. Tried a new bit of software before I remembered 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'... Listen again now and it will be fine.
Ah, very funny! Yes, just had a fantastic couple of days skiing with Bob in Verbier and that episode will come out soon. In the meantime, unless you're a regular listener you'll have missed these:

Well done for getting that denial out of Vail! Although your parting shot was very funny
Adding a Blair Aitken guided Scottish Highlands day / or « hour window » to the bucket list!
And just enjoyed the pod with Frank Baldwin, from skier magazine to the International Space Station, he’s certainly got some good stories!

Thanks Bob. I've produced too many episodes this winter...it takes up too much time researching, recording and publishing them, I keep forgetting to share about them! Four more since my last post...including the big one: Xavier De La Rue - all time legend!
