Jeez...give the guy a break.

You would be full of back-slapping if it had been a.n.other on longer skis....so what if they are a bit different?
They are skis, he is skiing.

@rungsp, I wasn't making a dig about the skis, merely observing it was very rocky in places.

Of course, DB! Are you still located in Vienna? You were the first Brit to test the very first edition of RaxSki in Jan 2008.
I am curious to hear your judgement. Why not start this Summer on some glacier?

OK, you will test very different RaxSki (called "HighTech Carver").
No fat shovels at the tips but short outrigger edges for carving turns.

Never, ever do what Tom is doing, skiing over rivers like that. If you break through and you are taken under the snow you will drown. It has happened to a lot of climbers over the years.

I'm not criticising Tom's video but I have been in the situation myself where I was skiing a couloir late season and at the end of the couloir the snow collapsed to reveal a raging torrent underneath and I was lucky to avoid it.

Talking of May snow here's one for @pam w, the French ski de fond team fired up a Kassbohrer at les Saisies earlier in the week and pisted a ski de fond trail for some early / late season training.

amazing snow conditions at les Saisies compared to around here (Grenoble) where things were really not that fantastic this season.

Ok, espri and davidof, the snow-covered torrents are not so dangerous on Kitzsteinhorn below the glacier-level.
Let me show you the panorama of the whole freeride-scene there.

"My" waterfall is located in the second couloir from the left.
But the best lines are those extremely narrow gorges on the right side. They are a "no go" terrain for long skis without "rax"-fins.
Simply too steep and not wide enough for jump turns...

Yes still in Vienna, wow can't believe it was really 10 years ago, doesn't time fly when you are having fun?

Summer tends to be pretty booked up with holidays, MTB / Klettersteig trips etc but by early Autumn I'm itching to get on the skis again so sometime in Sep - Nov would probably work for me.

I'll drop you a PM with my mobile number.

@Tom from Austria, do you know that http://members.aon.at is blocked as a malicious website by Malwarebytes ?

Not too cool if you're using that for marketing purposes.

Hence your photos will not appear for the many running Malwarebytes software

You are right Bobbin, "getting in the back seat is a ... disaster..." - WITH YOUR SKI!
Having metallic fins on the back turns the scene in opposite.
Well, it was the most important finding of this invention at its very beginning 10 years ago:
The faster you ski the less is the danger of falling back - because the rear fins cut stronger the snow or ice then
and develop a torque lifting your body upwards again.

Yet this miracle does not work withi regular skis.
