Hi,
I'm off to Soelden on the 27th jan for a week, driving from Munich airport.
Is there anything I should do/see/avoid while I'm there?
I'm looking for guidance on food in resort/huts, pistes, apres (Hinterhag Alm is the best pub in the world), how to avoid queues, other resorts to go and see etc.
And if you're up for it, meet up for a beer or ten.
Thankyou,
Keith

Been there just before christmas, it was amazing. No queues at the Giggijoch, we loved having lunch in the restaurant located to the right of the top of the gondola.
We took all cable cars to reach above the glaciers. On clear/sunny days you can descend on long cruisy blues or reds. When foggy, go through the sky tunnel to the south side, where visibility was always great and enabled us to circumvent the tricky part
After 16 we had a good time in Fire and Ice or Katapult.
Consider one day in Hochgurgl - Obergurgl, ski pass is included.
If I'll find a ski buddy here, i want to return there early march

Go to the Gampa-Thaya Alm for lunch.
Glacier runs are the quietest runs in the morning if you´re early starters.
Grizzly Bar for relaxed evening drinks.
Schirm Bar, Kuck Kuck, Almrausch or Phillip for busy Apres Ski.
Panorama Alm for another lunch or after skiing choice.
The Ice Cube at the top of the Gaislachkogelbahn cable car, for the James Bond experience.
Drive via Garmisch Partenkirchen to avoid the worst traffic. (Or book us for a stress free transfer )

We're in Obergurgl that week but not sure if we'll make it down to Sölden. One tip may be don't travel up to Obergurgl on a very snowy day. By all accounts some folks who'd used the one day extension to the respective tickets got stuck in the wrong town last Thursday night as they couldn't keep the road open!

@robboj, definitely true for every heavy snowing day. Valid all over. Best to ski in the main location.
But in any normal winter day, you have perfect connection to Obergurgl. How else can he stop and eat at Nederhutte?
[that's it, i have to return this march]

My question is, which apres ski bar plays the most "proper austrian" apres ski music? I'm looking for the classics such as "so a schoner tag", "wir wollen die eisbären sehen", "schwarze natascha" etc.
Not so interested in hearing about sex on fire all night!
Cheers!

Yeah, we were based in Obergurgl but got stuck in Solden for the night last week. Apparently the road never closes! All other days the buses ran like clockwork and it is a great additional to be able to move between resorts on the one ski pass so easily. We found Solden had better skiing in the conditions we faced with more tree lined runs open.
As for apres, hard to miss it in Solden. The one at the bottom of the Gaislachkogelbahn is a mix of new and authentic Austrian cheese. Just wait til you hear Johnny Dapp!!

@Disaster, Nederhutte. The ski back down from there is always fun unless you are too refreshed in which case they will take you on a skidoo towed sleigh

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Ah yes, heard good things about that place. We'll certainly be spending the day over that way. I take it the buses run to a reasonable hour from Obergurlg to Solden?
Cheers

@Disaster, There should be a timetable on the Sölden website. If it was a one off I wouldn't think a taxi would be ruinous? the live band plays Mon,Wed,Thurs & Fri.

Hi,
I'm planing to arive in Solden on 2nd Feb and it's our first time to be there.
More specific, we booked apartment in Langenfeld (13 Km away) and I need some informations like:
where to go in Langenfeld in afternoon (good food, bar, shops)?
How often ski-bus drives to Solden?
Is there enough parking places near gondola entry?
What is the "must see" in Solden?
Check is on me if anyone of you is there.
Thanks
Boris

Ok, now in Solden till after skiing on Saturday the 3rd feb. Too late for the slopes today. I’m planning to take a look at Schirm Bar, Kuck Kuck, Almrausch and Phillip over the next few days - pm me if you’re up for a pint 🍺

A mate used Sölden skischule a few weeks ago, his feedback is “Very good. Older blokes interested in teaching not just having a laugh..”
