Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Turin Airport to Bourg St Maurice/Les Arcs?

Is it possible to drive from Turin Airport to BSM/Les Arcs? What's the route inthe winter, and how long would it take? Anyone done this, perhaps as an alternative to Geneva or Lyon airports?

You can do it via the Frejus tunnel, Rob, but I've no idea how long it takes. Incidentally, I believe there's a way into the 3 Vallees lift system from a village on the route you use to access France from this direction, but can't remember the name of the village.

Drive to La Thuile, Strap rucksack to back, ski to La Rosiere, right down to Seez, bus to BSM. I believe this method may have some drawbacks.

rob@rar.org.uk, 2:39 mins via the Frejus, not too bad really. Or 1:38 mins to La Thuile!

Yes, I'd have to factor in some extra time to stop for decent hot chocolate before heading across the border into France!

Frosty the Snowman, apologies! Forgot the usual www.viamichelin.fr caveats. Except on a February Saturday, or in a Reliant Robin. Or if the missus is map reading.

PG - the Michelin directions gave me a route that would take 3.56 hours - what did you enter to get 2.39 hrs?

Masque - Can you give me more details of the train service - how far is Aosta from Les Arcs 1800?
Thanks

Frosty the Snowman, it is if you want to get to La Thuile wink All it needs is a bus with snowcat tracks.

wondercat, I'ts not an option unless you are seriously nuts, really into ski touring and want to spend 24 hours traveling. Don't even think about it.

But there's got to be one nutter in this asylum who's done it or planning to Toofy Grin

this one? (Turin - Bourg St Maurice, standard Michelin recommended route) (to Bourg, not Les Arcs, another 30 mins or so depending on where you're staying if on the mountain).

PG, is right the tunnel is the only way, 2 hrs is about right , football fanatics have been known to drive to Turin for a big game, they,ve always claimed you can get there in 2 hrs.

Sorry to keep asking questions, but is it relatively simple to drive from Bourg to Les Arcs 1800?

Not that keen on driving abroad and bit wary of snowy roads and steep driving - but think it's the only way we'll afford it - the share coach transfers are extortionate.

Cheers

Yes, very easy. The road is not steep at all and is well looked after by the snowploughs. It is clearly signposted and takes about 25 minutes (about 10 minutes to come back down wink ). When we climbed up on New Year's Eve, it had been snowing, but with winter tyres fitted and a snowplough leading the way, it was no problem. I did notice some cars with Belgian and Spanish plates fitting snowchains near the roundabout just before 1600....but we were fine without the chains Very Happy
